Graslie, Serri. "The Modern American Man, Charted." NPR. NPR, 17 July 2014. Web. 16 Mar.
2016.
The point of this article to display charts comparing men and women, reflecting more on
men, and the significance of where men succeed women and vice versa. But, the purpose is
trying to explain why these gaps and successions are the way that they are. Graslie displays
thorough credibility in the truth displayed by her charts giving descriptive explanations as to
what they are supposed to show. She is also published through NPR. There is a ton of logical
evidence, mainly referring to her charts, which display an overwhelming amount of information.
It shows how girls succeed boys from the get go and on into higher education. Even with women
wanting to pursue higher education from a small age, men still over take women in their
earnings. It looks accurate, what the charts are stating, because it is normal for these gender gaps
to take place in society. It happens all the time. It just simply doesnt make sense why. Graslie is
extremely informative in her work. She made sure to explain what her aims were in displaying
the charts she chose and how they all connect. Visuals are always a good way of displaying data,
especially when comparing statistics. She definitely caught my attention with her use of imaging
and was very effective. I most certainly could use this article in my paper because it displays

how men succeed women even when there is no explanation as to how or why. Even after
womens rights movements from the 1900s, is there really equality?
Gutmann, Amy. "Time for More Women to Lead Our Schools." Washington Post. The
Washington Post, 22 Feb. 2013. Web. 16 Mar. 2016.
Women are outnumbering men in leadership and controlling positions in institutions such
as holding a seat of presidency. Gutmann states that women today account for the majority all
college campus populations and that, just recently, hold more advanced degrees than men do. But
its not easily seen because this isnt accurately reflected in higher ranking positions. For
universities to fully diversify their campuses and reach their full potentials, those who are most
qualified should be represented at the top. The author is highly credible because of the fact that
she has her own firsthand experience incorporated into her piece. So, not only does she know
what shes talking about, shes been posted through The Washington Post. Because women are
outnumbering men in their high ranking positions due to their higher educational status or better
quality of their work, they should take their place in office at the top. It makes complete and
total, logical sense. Women are wired to be emotional, which people see as a threat of being a
liability. But, it actually makes for a better chance of really connecting to people of the work
place. Ethically men are seen as superior to women, but if a woman is better qualified, doesnt
she deserve it? Gutmann used a lot of data such as surveys, statistics, and her personal
connection to persuade the reader to her side of reasoning. The author was highly effective for
the topic she introduces because she was elaborate. I could definitely use this piece in my
research paper because it displays characteristics of women that are seemingly better compared
to those of a man.
