Questions
3.
How would you recommend this project be organised? Functional project? Pure
project? Matrix? Why?
The Sigma Six project is recommended to be organised using functional project
structure. This is because the Sigma Six project is specific, which is under the
radiology department. Therefore, the organisation should be using functional project
structure due to its specificity involving the radiology department.
By applying functional project structure, there will be a clear line of command.
Functional structures are managed through a clear top-down approach, with
employees generally reporting to only one manager. Fewer layers of management
means employees are more likely to know what is expected of them, and from whom.
Secondly, the advantage of using functional project structure is autonomy. Autonomy
means that the results of the project will be controlled by the department itself only.
Project goals are determined internally, not by an external project owner, and thus are
better suited to meet departmental need.
Third is that the team will have quick decision making. People who approach
problems from the same perspective (all the candidates have background in radiology)
can often make decisions more quickly and effectively.
Fourth is knowledge sharing among the team members. Grouping people together
according to professional similarities also promotes communication and knowledge
sharing between co-workers.
4.
What criteria would you use in selecting resources to serve on your project team?
The criteria that are chosen in selecting resources to serve on my project team are
experience, Sigma Six experience, availability and proficiency.
5.
From the available resource pool, who would you select to be in your project team?
Why?
Based on the available resource pool, the candidates selected are Hazel Vaughn, Joyce
Snyder, Peggy Moss and Peter Foltz. Nick Rogers was not chosen as past projects
indicate, conflict usually arises from when more than one Black Belt is assigned to the
same task. When such conflict does arise, it tends to
