The Importance of College Student Voters

In our generation the severity of voting has seemed to decrease. As our
generations grow we are seeing less and less college students voting in
presidential elections. Of 21% of students 18-25 that register to vote, only
17% actually vote in the polls. We need to better educate students of the
importance of voting. Kenneth Robinson is a staff writer that has stated, ...
With a lot of budget cuts to higher education, you would think that students
would be more motivated to vote. Although most students do not
understand the importance of voting, and think it does not make a
difference, our future generations will prosper off of it. We are making the
future for our next generations.
According to the blog, Campus Vote Project, the last registration poll
clarified college student votes have been the lowest in the last 40 years. This
is nonsense, we are decreasing our say on our future. A total of 1.7 million
students 18-24 in America have said that they are not aware of the
registration process, so they simply do not vote. We need to make
advancements to provide knowledge to all those student voters about the
importance and process. If we are educated in the matter, it will become
more appealing for us to take action, and vote. The number one reason
students say they do not vote is I do not vote because I simply do not have
the time to do so. Voting is not time consuming, maybe only if the process is
not understood.
Everyone has their own voice. By not voting students are erasing their
voice. As Schopp says, Its easy to think of yourself as one voter out of a
millions, but what about all the other people thinking the same thing? Votes
add up and yes, all these votes can make a difference in an election. What a

strong argument, each and every voice counts. As a whole we all can make
such a tremendous differences. There are a lot of college students in our
nation, together we can change the future. Having an outcome we desire is
crucial for our generation. We, college students are the only ones that realize
how our generation is. We are the ones who understand how school systems,
and college processes are working. Each generation has a different outcome,
and environment. Kidd says, The bottom line is that people generally agree
that the extent to which younger adult students feel they have a stake in the
establishment that is less than the older voter.
Social media has a big influence on the way students view elections.
There are vines, gifs and memes that show crude humor and negative
outcomes of voting. Also older generations persuading students not to vote
because they lack education and experiences. I do not find the sources
that say students shouldnt vote because they dont know whats going on
credible to any extent. Every student has had difference opportunities and
experiences, no person should judge students as a whole. Zachary Jones
addressing three main points about how crucial voting is: experience,
trajectory, and the issues. As college students we understand each topic
more than the typical average age American. We are up to date with current
issues pertaining to the next generation.
In conclusion, I hope to educate college students on the matter of how
important their voices and votes are. Each voice adds up and is the future for
this generation and the next. It is crucial for our world and survival to have
each voice added to the poll. Jones has a different perspective on the matter,
he says all students want to be heard, even if they dont reach out and vote
they still want to be heard. I love how he urges students to do their
research, and vote for this generation. So now we all just need to get out
there and VOTE!
