Goal Statement
I have always known that I wanted to work with children. However, I had difficulty
figuring out which field I wanted to work in with children. High school was the time where I
figured out my career goal. I graduated high school in the year 2013. During my senior year of
high school, I took an early childhood course. As a result of taking the early childhood course in
high school, it helped direct me towards early childhood education. Once I graduated high
school, I continued my education at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). I am
currently working towards getting my Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education at
NOVA. My goal is to become a preschool and elementary school teacher.
After studying at NOVA, I have figured out that my ultimate goal is to become a Head
Start and Kindergarten teacher. In order to achieve my goal, I will have to obtain several
different degrees. After earning an Associates Degree Early Childhood Education, I will have to
get my Bachelor's degree. Subsequently, I will have to get my Masters Degree. Then the last
step is for me to get my teaching licensure for pre-k through third grade. This is the full process I
am going to take in order to achieve my goal.
I am a very driven person. Thus, when I have a goal in mind I work hard in order to
achieve that goal. I constantly advocate for myself by asking questions. I ask questions in order
to make sure I am on the right path to achieving my goal. In addition to reaching my goal, I have
some experience regarding working with children. Prior to having teaching experience, I
constantly babysat my nephews. In high school, I assisted Head Start teachers in creating lesson
plans. I also taught the children the lesson plans. I am currently working at Kinder Care as an
assistant teacher. Working in Kinder Care for a year and a half has given me hands-on experience
on how to resolve conflicts. Moreover, I have learned other skills such as how to interact with
parents. Additionally, I have taken many courses in early childhood education. Those courses
have given me a lot of insight on how to become an early childhood professional. In conclusion,
all my experiences and personal traits have helped me to become an early childhood
professional.
