District Technology

Mobile technology (laptops, tablets, & cell-phones) may be issued to teachers, administrators
and staff as an instructional, management, and communication tool(s). Teachers, administrators,
and staff must follow these guidelines:

Follow all regulations and policies according to District Policy 524, Internet Acceptable
Use and Safety, and Electronic Communications Policy, as well as all applicable State
and Federal laws; including copyright and intellectual property law, pertaining to
software and information.
Mobile technology remains the property of ISD 518 at all times. Upon request, the
employee must return the technology promptly.
If a teacher retires, resigns, or leaves the school system, all technology is to be returned
immediately to the appropriate school officials.
a. All online accounts issued through the school district may be terminated
immediately; these accounts may include but are not limited to; email, Google,
Schoology, etc
No software is to be installed on a computer without the permission of the Technology
Director. This includes disabling the anti-virus and firewall. Any software not authorized
by District Policy will be removed.
a. Apps may be purchased and downloaded on district owned tablets. All apps must
be educationally appropriate.
Technology issued to teachers and administrators is for work use. ISD 518 encourages
staff to use mobile technology outside work hours. However, it is for the employees sole
use only, and not for use by students, family members or any other person.
Teachers, administrators, and staff will be held responsible for any involvement by
yourself or any other user of your mobile technology in activities associated with
accessing inappropriate or illegal materials in accordance with school polices.

Expectations:
1. Back up data files to the network or the Cloud on a regular basis. The school district is
not responsible for any lost files. The technology department will work with you to
restore missing work files; however, personal files stored on district issued technology
will not receive assistance from the technology department.
2. Teachers and administrators must report damage, malfunctions, theft or loss of the district
issued technology to the tech department immediately.
3. Teachers and administrators are expected to utilize the technology issued to them.
However, there are times when school personal may use their own technology.
a. The district is not responsible for personal technology; this includes loss, theft, or
other damages.
b. The tech department is not available to work on personal devices.
c. The district will not place paid programs or apps on personal devices.

Disciplinary Action:
Any violation of Federal law, State law or District policies, requirements, expectations or
other misconduct may lead to disciplinary action for inappropriate use of technology.
Materials are available to provide guidance and avoid issues and employees are
encouraged to ask for assistance in order to avoid potential action.
Social Media:
Social media is a powerful tool that may be utilized by teacher, administrators, and staff
to benefit students and the community in a positive manner. Social media may be utilized
through the district created accounts or through personal accounts.
District Accounts:

The utilization of social media must have a direct benefit to District 518 students and
programs.
Posting of information on social media will be conducted by the tech department or an
assigned designee from each building.
Student information will not be including in the postings.
Utilizing Personal Accounts:
Staff may utilize personal accounts to post examples of student learning or
student activities.
All postings through personal social media accounts must utilize the hashtag
designated for the particular building associated with the student.

Staff must realize through the action of posting student learning on
their personal accounts, their accounts may fall under public
perception and need to be cognitive of postings, followings, and likes
associated with their personal accounts.
Staff are highly encouraged to create new accounts to use with student
learning.
Social media is a form of communication and staff who wish to share, must
have their social media account listed with their building administrator.
