Writing Process Essay

The last major writing assignment I had to complete was a paper in my engineering course
titled The Whole Life Concepts paper. This paper consisted of me describing what my passion
is, and what I want my future job in engineering to be in detail and exactly how I imagine it will
be. To start this assignment, I was to come up with my ideal job in the future and try to figure out
if it was the one I really wanted to pursue. Much like other papers, I didnt write any ideas I had
down on paper or on the computer because I believe if I have to do that to think of ideas, the
ideas probably are not very good and do not reflect what I really want in the future. Although I
did not write any ideas down, I got input from fellow classmates to figure out what their passions
are and how they were going to convey these passions in their essays. These stages of the writing
process come very early, but the actual writing takes place rather late when I have fully thought
out exactly what I am going to write about in full.
When I actually began writing the paper, I just dove in head first and pieced all of my ideas I
had previously thought of together and went with the flow. I never tend to write first drafts unless
I am told to by the instructor, which I was in this case. When I wrote the paper, I was house
sitting for my aunt and uncle who live here in Charlotte, so the atmosphere was nice and quiet to
write a paper in and the process went rather smoothly. It also helped that I knew what I was
going to write about and that the subject of the paper was interesting and had purpose to it. I have
never written for fun, nor do I plan to, but this paper was one of the easiest to write considering
the subject was about my future. There were genuine things I needed to think about to become
comfortable with my idea of my future and how my past and future education is going to get me
there.

When finishing up this assignment, I felt pretty confident that I was going to get a solid grade
on this paper. The only thing that hindered my confidence was the way that I cited my sources.
This is my least favorite stage in the writing process because I tend to get lazy with stuff like this
because I honestly do not believe that it is necessary for a paper that I fully wrote. After the
sources were cited, I decided that my paper was complete and this major assignment was over,
the night before it was due of course. When I came back to class after the weekend, my instructor
told everyone their grades, I was surprised to see that I got a 97% on the proposal and a 90% on
the actual paper. This was 30% higher than the class average and I had the highest grade in my
class. This was nice because it shows that even if you wait longer than recommended to write the
paper, the paper can still turn out as you want it and give you a solid grade.
