Hi, my name is Tim McIntosh from California, and I love math.

That is the best

introduction I could muster. To give a very brief overview on my life, I must warn the
reader that it is an atrocious mess. I was obviously given birth to my mother and
birth father, the second to these young parents. My mother was 20 when I was born,
and my eldest sister is 4 years older than me. So one could say my parents started
early. When I was born, my birth father decided to abandon his duties, and ran
away. An even longer story short, my mother met my first stepdad via mutual best
friends. My youngest sister entered the picture, and all was fine and dandy. A
tragedy happened between their mutual friends, and my mom ran away this time.
After much pain and sorrow, my mom came back a few years after running away.
She had gotten her life back together, and now was living 3 hours south of my
stepdads house. She took custody, and we moved to the city I now live in. She
married once more, and that has been the end of people leaving my life. They have
been married a happy 10 years, which is awesome. And now I am in the middle of
OHIO rather than beautiful California.
Ever since I was a small child, I wanted to be a father. A good one, too! I
wanted to show my future children that I would never leave, and that Id be there
for them. I found my true love for math during 7 th grade. It was interesting, fun, as if
a puzzle for me to solve. From 7th on, I only took honors classes, and pushed myself.
It wasnt until 11th grade I decided to teach math, all thanks to Mr. Mann, my precalc teacher. He made math fun for all students, and although not pronouncing it
openly, was an excellent father figure. I realized that being a teacher is so much like
being a father to many people. And like that, I no longer feared what I would do for
the rest of my life.
One unique skill I possess is to bring things to the simplest of terms. This
helps with math, being I can look at a math book, comprehend it, and translate it
into English. I am excellent and helping students, which is why I got about 5
students to tutor one-on-one during my first field experience. Many of my students,
after teaching a lesson to the whole class, would ask why Im not the teacher.
Another skill I have is to look at a situation from outside the box, and calmly handle
them. I have taught many different students, all who have their own way of
learning. I feel this unique experience will help me enhance my students
experience in my classroom. I also love teaching with differentiation in my
instruction methods.
In 5 years, I plan to be happily teaching as many math courses as I can in a
high school back in California. I would be pleasantly surprised if I could find a
position at my old high school: God knows they need better teachers. Too many
teachers are burnt out. In 10 years, I would love to be able to lead my own
workshops with other math teachers to talk about how to succeed in the classroom.
I want to be a role model to all, teachers and students alike. Perhaps I will also be an
administrator for a school. I feel I have ideas and goals to make any classroom a

passing classroom. Ive read plenty of stupendous books on teaching, and cannot
wait to implement them into my own classroom.
Here is a picture of my family portrait taken just a few weeks ago. I am
obviously on the most left. We have myself, my little sister Catherine (Ginger), my
mother (center), my second stepdad (above her), my two second cousins who we
have custody of (Jadon in my mothers arms, Anthony in my stepdads arms), and
finally my eldest sister Kayla on the right.
