Educators have to be knowledgeable in

the technologies used in their districts.
Therefore, leaders have to ensure that
professional development opportunities
for teachers are available. We dedicates
a portion of our PLCs to train teachers on
technology
The Report addresses the increase of
technology in and outside the classroom
is helping all parties (parents, students
and educators) involved increase
productivity.

Many companies are currently

developing learning platforms in order to
improve communication among students,
parents, educators and peers. My school
uses Istation, Learning A-Z and MyOn to
communicate with parents about their
students reading progress.
Though BOYD model helps educators
support their learners through
technology, teachers have to be able to
shows students how to use the different
programs. Leaders at DeAnda provide
more teacher training so that teachers
become fluent in all programs available.

Sub-Standard

a. Interact, collaborate, and publish

employing a variety of digital
environments and media

b. Communicate information and ideas

effectively to multiple audiences
using a variety of media and formats

c. Develop cultural understanding and

global awareness by engaging with
learners of other cultures

d. Contribute to project teams to

produce original works or solve
problems

Personal
Reflection
Through the BOYD approach, districts
expect to create a culture of
collaboration. At the elementary level,
we are far from allowing the students to
bring their own devices because of fear
that they might get distracted.
School communities have become
aware that technology is a fast and
reliable way to communicate. Parents
dont have to depend solely on the
teachers to provide all the pieces of the
puzzle, but rather teachers are now
facilitators in the process. At my school,
we use itslearning, living tree and Class
Dojo in order to communicate with
parents and students.
The Report points out that by having
students bring their own devices, they
can stay connected and current to
global issues. In return, they will be
knowledgeable and sensitive to other
cultures. DeAnda Elementary has not
started any type of implementation
program to connect with others outside
the school.
By staying connected and current to
global issues, they can brainstorm on
solutions and determine how it affects
their own community.

b. Select and use applications

effectively and productively

c. Troubleshoot systems and

applications

d. Transfer current knowledge to

learning of new technologies

Personal
Reflection
The BOYD policy has open the door for
students to be knowledgeable about
their devices. At my school, students
are not allowed to bring their own
devices. Therefore, when we initially
implement a program, we have to walk
students through the complete process.
The Reports talks about how students
can result in deeper understanding of
concepts by selecting and applying
technology. Most students at Deanda
can determine the appropriate use of
the technology pieces available to
them.
In the Report, it is addressed that
students need to understand how
systems work in order to solve
problems that arise. A small amount of
students are able to solve a simple
problem with the different programs that
we use at school.
Students build on previous knowledge
in order to acquire new knowledge.

3 Digital age learning environments
Technology coaches create and support effective digital age learning environments to
maximize the learning of all students
Sub-Standard

a. Model effective classroom

management and collaborative
learning strategies to
maximize teacher and student
use of digital tools and
resources and access to
technology-rich learning
environments
b. Maintain and manage a variety
of digital tools and resources
for teacher and student use in
technology-rich learning
environments
c. Coach teachers and model
use of online and blended
learning, digital content and
collaborative learning
networks to support and
extend student learning as
well as expand opportunities
and choices for online
professional development for
teachers and administrators
d. Select, evaluate, and facilitate
the use of adaptive and
assistive technologies to
support student learning

Personal
Rating

Personal
Reflection
By focusing on collaborative learning,
student engagement will increase, and
therefore classroom management will
improve.Our students are very
engaged when working on computer
programs because they address
individual needs.
A great variety of programs and/or tool
are created in order to foster
differentiated and creative learning. By
using MyOn, Dreambox and IStation
our district is ensuring that technology
can aid in student learning.
School leaders are making every effort
to create training sessions where
teachers and staff can learn to integrate
technology to better service the
students. HISD has placed a lot of effort
to offering face to face as well as online
PD to engage and advance students
learning.
Technology facilitates instructions by
targeting individual needs.
Differentiated instruction has been the
buzz phrase for quite a while. However,
teachers are now able to easily target
specific instruction by using technology.

e. Troubleshoot basic software,

hardware and connectivity
problems common in digital
learning environments

f. Collaborate with teachers and

administrators to select and
evaluate digital tools and
resources that enhance
teaching and learning and are
compatible with the school
technology infrastructure
g. Use digital communication and
collaboration tools to
communicate locally and
globally with students, parents,
peers and the larger
community

`The Report touches on how by

creating online communities can help in
supporting not only in learning but also
in problem solving. We, as a school,
are still working on supporting each
other through online components. We
still rely very much on face-to-face
support.
There are currently many initiatives
being created to aid in deeper learning
by using technology. Little input, at the
district level, is gathered from the
teachers on the resources that they
want to use with their students
The Horizon report addresses the
benefit communicating through
technology can bring. As a community
we now use more technology to
communicate with parents about their
students performance and any events
that are happening in the school. We
also use many online training to
support our teachers instruction.

Digital age learning culture (Standards for Administrators)

3 Digital age learning culture
Educational Administrators create, promote, and sustain a dynamic, digital-age learning
culture that provides a rigorous, relevant and engaging education for all students
Sub-Standard

a. Ensure instructional innovation

focused on continuous
improvement of digital-age
learning

b. Model and promote the frequent

and effective use of technology for
learning

c. Provide learner centered

environments equipped with
technology and learning
resources to meet the individual,
diverse needs of all learners
d. Ensure effective practice in the
study of technology and its
infusion across the curriculum

Personal
Rating

Personal
Reflection
The Report mentions how the policies
that ensures and/or supports
instructional innovation in technology
are slowly starting to take on
importance by school districts. We are
seen how HISD is incorporating
technology in their curriculum.
Schools are integrating technology in
professional development for
educators. There is a vast number of
webinars for teachers, but many do not
take advantage of them because it
leaders do not provide the time.
Through technology, it is easy to
differentiate instruction since there are
many environments that are deigned
for this purpose. We are providing
differentiated instruction in reading
through Istation, MyOn, Learning A-Z
and other programs.
The Report talks about two or more
subjects are being connected so that
teachers and students can collaborated
and connect subject matter. DeAnda is
still working towards this goal, but we
are still at the low implementation

stage.

e. Promote and participate in local,

national and global learning
communities that stimulate
innovation, creativity and digital
age collaboration

Different approaches to using

technology have been presented to
connect our learners to others
worldwide. This new approach is still
very challenging and teachers see it as
more work since they themselves are
doing most of the work.
