San Joaquin Valley is one of the states main agricultural

producing region, also know as the the nation's salad bowl for
having an array of fruits and veggies which are easily grown in
its fertile soil.

Bakersfield is within the southern horseshoe which

located at the end of the San Joaquin Valley and the
southern tip of Sierra Nevada.

The elevation of the mountains increase from north to

south.Sierra Nevada has rugged snow capped
mountains, clear freshwater lakes, and massively tall
sequoias trees, uts known as one of the most visually
stunning landscapes in the united states.

Hazard to watch for: Drought / Air pollution

Hazard to watch our for: Air pollution / Sinkholes

Hazards to watch for: Snow Melts / Snow packs

Snowpack and snowmelt are extremely important as it

helps provide California with drinking water,
electricity, and irrigation water. The snowpack remains
in tact until the weather warms and this created a
runoff which travel to our springs and percolates our
ground soil. Due to climate changes the water is now
becoming precipitated into rain rather than snow. This
can create a water shortage.

Today the valley has horrible air quality which does not meet
health standards set by the United States. The bowl shaped
valley holds and collects emissions caused by the 3 million
residents and their 2 million vehicles. A major canal near a city
called Los Banos, located in the Valley has reported crack in the
concrete on its sides, This is due to ground sinking so much. The
ground has sunk about 13 inches and it's because of the over
pumping of its groundwater.

Due to the Tulare Basin hydrology, Bakersfield, CA has

ample vegetation, but it still has a desert climate. The
summers are long, hot, and dry with brief cool, not
wet winters. Summers stretches can be brutal with the
temperature hitting a constant 90 F or more.
Bakersfield has also been known for its air quality
problems, as it is ranked 2nd most polluted city in the
United States due to its high ozone levels.
