INTRODUCTION
How will I engage the learners? (e.g., motivational strategy, hook, activation of learners prior knowledge,
activities, procedures, compelling problem)
Ask students: Does anyone remember what a noun is? Write their answers on the board (1 minute)
- Bring out anchor chart and read the definition of it.
MIDDLE:
Teaching: How does the lesson develop?
How we teach new concepts, processes (e.g., gradual release of responsibility - modeled, shared, and
guided instruction).
TossnTalk Ball Game! (10 minutes)
A beach ball has three words written on it: person, place and thing. The ball is tossed between members of the class
and when they catch the ball, whichever word their right thumb is closest to is the one which they will have to think of
an example of. For example, an example of a Person would be my baby sister.
Provide an example before starting the
game. Have all members of the class stand.
Write down their answers on chart
paper as the game continues
*After each person has had a chance to be passed to, they can sit down (warn Nardein & Rahaf ahead of time)
*Urge them to be more and more specific with their answers as the game goes on.
Consolidation and/or Recapitulation Process: How will I bring all the important ideas from the learning
experiences together for/with the students? How will I check for understanding?
Go over all the ideas generated (that were recorded on the board)
Explain the importance of being detailed when using nouns.
- For example: Instead of saying I went to the park you can say I went to Victoria park with my friend Sam and we
brought yellow rain coats and umbrellas because it was raining

Application: What will learners do to demonstrate their learning? (Moving from guided, scaffolded practice,
and gradual release of responsibility.)
Write a journal entry that includes more specific nouns (people, places and things) in order to tell your reader more
detail
Topic for their journal entry: Your Worst Ouch Story
CONCLUSION: How will I conclude the lesson?
Think of some more ways you can bump up your writing for next time!
