Shade the bottom of the noses lightly using CANDYBAR BROWN. Line in the mouth and nostrils using CHARCOAL. Shade a very small “V' shape in the center to create the mouth. Apply the whiskers using WHITE af B asecoat: Apply several light coats of paint until an even, opaque coverage is achieved. Sand lightly between the first and second coats. This will give a nice smooth surface on which to paint. Cc lip-Ylap: Haphazardly apply the paint using uneven brush strokes in the form of “x's”. To soften the brush strokes, very lightly slip-slap the wet paint with medium or large mop brush. Avoid over-working the paint as this will result in muddying effect. It is not necessary to remove all brush strokes as this technique is used to quickly create an interesting background. ‘Casual Basecoat: Unless otherwise stated, apply one coat of paint to the desired area. This does not result in an opaque coverage. Lightly Yippie: Load a small amount of paint onto a dry brush; pounce the brush on the palette paper until it creates tiny, separate dots. Start pouncing the brush with a light pressure and increase as there begins to be less paint on the brush. If it is necessary to change colours, simply scrub off any remaining paint on a paper towel and re-load the brush. Do not wet the brush. Creating Aur with the Ailbert Rake: Load the brush with an ink-like consistency of paint. With the handle of the brush held straight up, lay the hairs flat and gently wiggle the brush right and left. This will help to spread the brush hairs. When creating fur, apply a very light touch on the brush. Do a test stroke on the palette paper. One brush stroke should produce several fine lines. The strokes are applied starting at the base of the fur and ending at the tip. Avoid producing a coiffed looking animal by gently curving the brush strokes haphazardly to the right and left. Shade or Highlight: Unless otherwise stated the shading and highlight is done using the floating technique. Wet the brush in clean water. Lay the brush hairs down on a paper towel until the sheen disappears. Flip the brush over and gently touch the tip of the hairs to the paper towel. | test my quantity of water by passing the brush gently over the back of my hand. It should leave a slight trace of water. If it leaves nothing, there is not a sufficient amount of water left. Should there be droplets on my hand, there is still too much water. Load paint onto one corner of the brush and stroke the brush on the palette Seis andi Lachombgua paper until a nice gradation of colour is achieved. Be patient as it takes practice, practice, and more practi to achieve nice floats. Wash: This is a mix of water with a very small amount of paint in it (dirty water). | always apply my wash witha side-loaded brush to avoid unwanted lines. ‘Drybrush: My drybrushing is done with the blender brushes. Apply a small quantity of paint on the end of the bru pounce the brush on the palette paper in order to move some of it up into the hairs a short distance. Scrub the brush on a paper towel to remove almost of the paint. Gently rub the brush in the desired direction. Very little colour will come off at a time. Apply more and more pressure to the brush as there begins to be less and less paint left. Avoid rubbing too long in one area, as you will create a whole in the paint. Remember several light passes are better than one heavy one. Dots in Eyes, Muzzles etc: To create a more natural look, apply light reflection in eyes, dots on muzzles with a liner tip. Avoid using the” stylus to do this as it creates dots that are too perfect to be natural. Douvie-Load: Apply the first colour to one half of the brush and the second colour to the second half of the brush. The colour should touch in the center of the brush. If you are loading a deerfoot, stipple onto the palette paper to blend the colours in the middle of the brush. If you are loading a flat brush, work the brush as for a float onto palette paper so that the colours blend together in the center of brush. Overstroke: Pass over the same area a second time with the indicated colour. . CSideload: Apply colour to one side of the brush only and work the brush on the palette paper to create a gradation colour. One side of the brush must have only water on: it.
