Foundations:
Describe how you have considered the needs of gifted learners in the development
of this lesson plan. Include academic and affective needs, as well as individual
student interests, strengths and goals.
For gifted students they will complete a worksheet that will look at various aspects
of the webquest in further detail. The students will answer questions that are more
analytical rather than comprehensive based.
Lesson introduction (anticipatory set):
Students will watch a short video clip about the Ottoman Empire. The clip will cover
a lot of what we will be covering in the notes in order to help them answer questions
throughout the notes.

Procedure:
Begin the PPT.
Slide 1, ask what other group this reminds them of.
Slide 3, talk about TImur the Lame and how he halted expansion

Slide 6, talk about where Ottomans began and where they have expanded thus far
Slide 7, explain how Constantinople was conquered
Slide 9, compare Renaissance to Suleymans cultural expanse
Slide 10, how has the empire grown
Slide 12, talk about picture of Janissaries
Slide 13, explain that the empire didnt officially end until WW1
Once the students have finished their notes they will be given a worksheet to
complete individually. They will go to the Website created for this class and answer
the questions.
Differentiation (tiered by product, process, outcome, complexity, resources, OR
challenge) what are your tiers and how did you decide on them?
The lesson will be differentiated by resource. The students will receive different
sheets with varying levels of questions that will focus on different aspects of the
given website.

Acceleration or enrichment for gifted learners:


The gifted students will be enriched by answering more analytical questions that
have them think about the information on the site rather than looking for specific
answers to the questions in the text.
