The Education for All Handicapped Children Act


Passed in 1975
Ensures that all children with disabilities receive free,
appropriate public education
Was revised in 2004 as the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (IDEA)
This act mixes special education students into regular
classrooms so that they are all equal

This law guarantees that children with disabilities receive
free appropriate public education
Makes sure every student improves by putting special
programs in place
Children with disabilities must be educated with children
who are not disabled

IEP

Individualized Education Programs


A plan for children with disabilities that strictly outlines
goals and achievements for the school year
Created by the general ed teacher as well as the special
education teacher
Depending on each student's case, the parents school
psychologist, etc, may have input on what is on the
student's IEP

Serves the most disabled and medically fragile students in


CCSD
Ages range from 3-21 years old
For students with as little as a learning disability, to brain
injuries
Many programs are offered such as Speech Therapy,
Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Vision Services, etc
These special programs are offered to students depending on
their IEP

Strive for students to participate in a democratic society,
be prepared for the job market, become life learners
Special classrooms will be taught by professionals from
Cleveland Clinic to teach teachers how to educate
students with autism and other disabilities.

Homebound Instructional Program

Serve students who are ill or injured and unable to attend


school
Teachers travel to the student's home to provide direct
instruction
Services are provided for a minimum of 15 days, or what
is determined by a doctor
For secondary education students, instruction is taught
online

What is a Least Restrictive Environment?


By definition means A learning environment that, to the
maximum extent possible, matches the environment
experiences by nondisabled students
Students with disabilities must be educated with children
who are not disabled
This provides full interaction with not only students that
are like them, but students with no disabilities
