    WhenaChristianathletepraysbeforecompetitionheismakingapowerfulexpressionofBiblicalTheology.
    Oftenthemediawillsensationalizetheactofprayer,especiallywhenhighprofileathleteslikeTimTeboware
    involved,buttheirhuntforratingsdolittletointerferewiththeindividualconnectiontoGodthatisofferedby
    prayer.Prayer,whetherindividualorgroup,iscommunicationwiththeAlmighty.Communicationisboth
    contributingandlisteningtoeachother.Ifwekeepourfocusonthisdialogue,andremembertowhomweare
    speaking,noamountofchatterornoisewillinterfere.
    AlongwithrememberingthatweareinthepresenceoftheLordofCreationwhenwepray,wemustalsobe
    awareofwhatwearesayingorasking.Wearenottobeaskingforthehumiliationanddefeatofouropponents,
    thusaskingGodtotakesidesandrootforonecompetitoroveranother.Wearetoasktoperformatourbestin
    thearenaoronthefieldofplay.Toperform,orlive,atourbestistheessenceofavoidingwhattheBibleviews
    assin.
    Therearetwomainwordsforsin,hetinHebrew,andhamartiainGreek,andtheybothmeanexactlythe
    samething;tomissamarkornotattainagoal.Sinmeansinaction,notlivinguptoonespotential.Setting
    asidethetheologicalconnotations,whichareentailedinthesewords,foracompetitiveathletesinmeansnot
    tryingonesbestonagivenday.Sindoesnotequatetolosing.Sinequatestonotusingyourgiftsandtalents
    totheirfullestcapacity.Jesussaid,tothosemuchhasbeengiven,muchwillbeexpected(Luke12:48).
    Competitiveathleteshavebeengivenveryspecialgiftsandsinoccurswhenthesegiftsarenotusedproperly.
    Therefore,whenaChristianathletepraysbeforeacompetitionhe/sheisprayingtoactuptotheirfullest
    potential.Inthiswayweperformanactofworship,showcasingthegifts,whichGodhasgivenus.Itisnot
    immodesttoperforminthearenaanddisplaythetalentsthatderivefromGodsgrace.Jesusalsoinstructedto
    notputourlightunderabowl,butletmenseethegoodnessoftheFather(Matthew5:1416).Competitorscan
    beembodimentsofGodsgrace,letuspraythatwedisplaythisgraceinthebestpossibleway.
