Stewart, Craig, and Lynn Owens. "Behavioral Characteristics Of 'Favorite' Coaches:

Implications For Coach Education." Physical Educator 68.2 (2011): 90-97. Academic
Search Complete. Web. 18 Feb. 2016.
Craig Stewart's article describes the qualities and characteristics of favorite coaches and
least favorite coaches. In this reading there are a variety of tests done to predict the statistics of
the perfect coach vs. the worst coach, as well as the difference, if any, between coaching males
and females. Many different conclusions on these subjects were brought in, narrowing them all
down to just a few certain characteristics to make the ideal coach, will help all athletes and
coaches, present, former, and future, with being the best. I chose this article to support my topic
because I believe there is a drastically large difference between coaching males and females. I
also thought that the points brought up in the article were extremely correct about favorite
coaching styles.

Thompson, Jim. Positive Coaching: Building Character and Self-esteem through Sports. Portola

Spaziani 2

Valley, CA: Warde, 1995. Print.

In Thompsons book he covers every aspect of coaching. From players to parents, the
playing fields to his/her own home, the attitudes to the skills, every aspect of sports and coaching
is important, no matter what gender or sport it may be. Thompson does a great job of
characterizing the way coaches coach and players play with the relationships and how they
coincide with each other. This book will help support my topic because everything one could
ever need to know about how to coach and treat their athletes is right in between these covers. I
will not only use this for my benefit in the exploration, but will use this in my own life.

Wattie, Christine. "Coaching Leaders: Keys For Success." NZ Business + Management 29.8
(2015): M27-M30. Business Source Premier. Web. 18 Feb. 2016.
Christine Watties article starts off with a great quote to really drive the reader into
finishing through the remainder of the article. In the article, she expressed what coaching
actually is and how it tasks and targets various aspects of sports. Mentally and psychologically
coaching will help both athletes and non-athletes. Wattie shows the true difference between
coaching and mentoring and how it benefits all. Coaches can be deep and empathetic, but they
could also be head-strong and hard. These are parts of being successful at being a great
coach/mentor. Her article, Coaching Leaders : Keys for Success will strongly support my
position because it is all about positively affecting people and how well they act towards good
coaching vs. the not so good ones. She shows what a coach truly is, which is what almost
everyone needs to read.
