Questions
1. Can you show that A and B balance can be
reduced to just two independent equations ?
2. Can you show that making one or more
component mass balances around the
combination of systems I and II, or II and III in
example 3.24 or the entire set of three units,
will add no additional independent mass
balances on each unit ?
3. Can you substitute one of the indicated
alternative mass balances for an independent
component mass balances ?
Answers
1. Of course. A and B balances can be reduced
to be 2 equations only.
A balance
F1 = F3 . ( 3,A ) 1st subsystem
F3 . ( 3,A ) = F5 . ( 5,A ) 2nd subsystem
F5 . ( 5,A ) = F7 . ( 7,A ) 3rd subsystem
---------------------------------------------------------------( + )
F1 = F7 . ( 7,A ) 1st Net Independent Equation
Balance B
F2 = F3 . ( 3,B ) 1st system
F3 . ( 3,B ) = F5 . ( 5,B ) 2nd system
F5 . ( 5,B ) = F8 . ( 8,B ) 3rd system
---------------------------------------------------------------( + )
F2 = F8 . ( 8,A ) 2nd Net Independent Equation
So, the total of Net Independent Equation of A
and B are 2 Equations
