PTE Lesson Reflection

1. In what ways did your knowledge of TPACK play into your lesson planning?
Blaire and I completely pulled in technology throughout our lesson and we used it to our
advantage to teach the content adding and subtracting within 10. The smart board
helped us to show our problems and with the use of active inspire, we could color directly
on the board to represent what our students were to do once they were to work together in
pairs. We also wanted to give each group a bag of connecting cubes to use throughout our
lesson. Knowing that we had low performing students we didnt want to do anything that
could single them out as being low performing. So we thought it best to offer each child
the manipulative and various learning strategies so as to make everyone feel included. I
also really liked all of the games we found and had the students play. It was a nice way to
incorporate technology into our lesson and the opening simulation of bunny balance was
a good engagement to get the students thinking about the idea of balance and being equal.

Technology- SMART board, ELMO, computers
ii.
Content- addition and subtraction problems
iii.
Pedagogy- modeling strategies to solve problems, screencasts, online games

2. How did you consider UDL as you planned your lesson? What might you do
differently (in anything) next time you had to plan with UDL in mind?

We made sure to include at least two elements for each UDL principle in our lesson. We
offered options for learning styles including. Next time I build a lesson Ill definitely be
sure to have the UDL checklist near by. I liked using the checklist because it really helped
me to ensure that I was thinking about all learners and that Im teaching to the best of my
ability.
3. Which of your teaching strategies did you find most effective? Least effective?
Please be as specific as possible.
I really liked how we used the smart board and the connecting cube manipulative. I feel
like they were both good ways to have students engaged and interested. It was a nice
addition for our low performing students to be able to watch us on the board and to be
able to hold the connecting cubes and visually see themselves how to figure out the
answer to each equation.
4. Please describe the work you (specifically) contributed to this project.
I came up with the main idea to do a math and subtraction lesson. We werent sure at first
what exactly to do with the addition and subtraction but with the help of the CCSS we
found the standard about keeping the numbers below 10 and about making equations
equal/true.
5. Please describe the work your partner (specifically) contributed to this project.
Blaire came up with the idea and activities for stations. We searched for games together
and thought it would be a good idea to make our screencasts revolve around the
explanation of the games because in an actual classroom we would want our students to
know how to play the game properly and how to use it to advance their understanding of
the concepts we taught.

6. Were there any problems/disagreements? Did anyone not seem to meet your
expectations? What might others in your group say about your contribution?
There werent any problems at all! We both worked well together and contributed
equally. Once we had our subject down we played off one another on ideas.

7. If you were to teach this lesson again, what would you change?
I really liked our lesson plan! I think the only thing I would change would be our
summative assessment. We listed Kahoot as our assessment but Professor Twiss spoke
with us about how that might not be the best idea just because its more of a game and
doesnt really assess how much the students can do. She offered that we let students
create their own Kahoot game and I like that idea, itd just have to be done with upper
level grades because Im not sure how well first graders would do with that assignment.
