PREVIOUS PLANS

Initially, the plan was to work with NAMI, an

organization in Austin centered around helping those

with mental illness. However, when we had our
meeting with NAMI their idea of how we could help
them wasn't on as large of a scale as we had hoped.
Our second plan was to work with Front Steps, a

homeless shelter in Downtown Austin. Although we

weren't working with specifically schizophrenia, we
knew that a lot of the homeless population in Austin
has mental health issues. Front steps emailed us back
after we sent our initial email, but never responded
once we tried to set up a meeting.

THE FINAL PLAN

ADDICTION
Another capstone group this year chose to work

with addiction. Although addiction is not the

same as the topic of mental health and
schizophrenia, they are in the same realm.
Addiction itself is a mental illness involving

changes in the brain that causes the person to

have a different set of needs than the average
person. In addition, many people who suffer
from addiction also suffer from different types of
mental illness.

DRIVE

The Austin Recovery Alliance is a non-profit organization, because

of this they have limited access to funding and the necessities to

help the addicts that they work with.
Many of the addicts that seek help from this organization are in

need of day to day items.

The Organization specifically said that unused toiletries were

something they were in need of.

In order to help the organization, we plan on setting up donation

boxes in various places around town and at Austin High.

For each item that is donated by an Austin High AGS student, we

will offer one service point.

AUSTIN HIGH OFFICES

It is our hope to set up a donation box in each

one of the offices at Austin High (Assistant

Principles Office, AGS office, Main Office, and
the Counselors Office.)
We have spoken to two out of the four offices

and they have both said yes. The second floor

office hasn't given us an answer yet, and we
aren't sure if the AGS has enough room.

RA N DA L L S

In order to receive as many donations as

possible, we decided to set up a donation box

inside the TarryTown Randalls.
This location would be the best option because

it is close to both of our houses. In addition, it is

also close to Casis Elementary.

NEIGHBORS
In addition to the Austin High Offices and the

TarryTown Randalls, we will be asking our family

members, friends, and neighbors for donations.
Most families have un-opened toothbrushes or

bottles of shampoo lying around that dont have

a use so this a really awesome way to rack up
extra donations for our project.
