Athlete Temperaments

People of these temperaments differ in their ability to work, activity level, and
mental agility
All athletes may be characterized as one, or a combination, of these:

Choleric
a. Extremely Irritable
b. Easily learns technique; but habits are unstable
Sanguine
a. Cheerfully Optimistic
b. Easily learns technique and retains habits
Phlegmatic
a. Apathetic, not easily excited
b. Slow to learn technique yet retains habits
Melancholic
a. Gloomy/depressed
b. Slow to learn technique and does not retain habits

For each of these groups the coach must develop a specific


approach to training
