Health Science Annotated Bibliography

Health science is a broad subject that spans widely from everyday nutrition to methods used to
save a patients life. The articles that I will be talking about in this paper, may seem to be a page
from a nursing manual or a common magazine found in homes. I, an inspiring nurse and
nutritionist have picked out articles of many types which however, share similar discourse
writing style.
Maughan, Ron J., Burke, Louise, and Ebrary, Inc. Sports Nutrition. Malden, Mass.: Blackwell
Science, 2002. Handbook of Sports Medicine and Science. Web.
Sports play a big role in the world of today. A few scientists decided to break down the
connection of sports and nutrition. This book uses science as a tool to identify exactly what the
human body needs to operate at a training, competitive level. It starts basic from nutrition
required for training to nutrition for competition. The first chapter is a summary of everything I
learned in nutrition. It goes in depth about how proteins, carbs, fat gets metabolized by your
body. They also include practical strategies to maintain a nutrition level by analyzing your body
type, or eating well while traveling. The handbook does not contain a clear conclusion as it just
abruptly ends as it is mostly informative.
Being in the health science generally will contain science back up. This handbook is
contributed by a hefty list of doctors in the beginning of the chapter. (I counted 19). Theyve also
included outside sources for more details on for example, training at high temperatures written
by other authors. The format is sufficient as when you first pick up this handbook, you will find a
list of 20 doctors that put this together and that makes the book official. This source is useful for
people who are wish to be competitive as it simplifies the complex terms of health science into
everyday language.
Wahlqvist Ao, M. L. "Requirements for Healthy Nutrition: Integrating Food
Sustainability, Food
Variety, Health." Journal of Food Science 69.1
(2004): CRH16-RH18. Web.
Nutrition is an elaborate word for food and it is not simply the nutritional
facts on a labeled canned of tomatoes. This article brings up an in-depth
summary of the other nutritional dietary guidelines that play a key role in
promoting health. This article not only talks about healthy nutrition but how
nutritional sustainability, variety and security play an important role in
determining universal nutrition facts. They use charts to prove their points
and tables to expand their information.
This article is very brief and concise. The whole article actually is about a
page with the other half filled with graphs and tables. However, once you go
further down towards the references, it leads you to a whole list of different
dietary guidelines. These tables effectively visualizes the needs that the
nutritional facts need to consider. The tables are conveniently placed for the
reader to see as it is placed at the appropriate paragraph of the source. Not
only is it concerned with health now, but health towards the future
economically, and environmentally. People who are pursuing agriculture or
dieticians who want to benefit the environment will find it useful.

Tarantino, Olivia. 12 Bad Foods That Are Now Good. Eat This, Not That!. 9 April 2016. Web.
23 Apr. 2016
Food consumption takes part of everyday life in all of us. If you didnt, youd most likely be
dead. Olivia writes an article that debunks all the myths that you hear on the media and it is
backed up through the use of nutrition. She goes on a list of known foods who have been known
to be considered bad but is actually good for you in moderation. The key word throughout this
article is moderation. Whether youre eating steak, butter, eggs, or anything else that is fat, it all
comes down to how much you consume.
The article is simple enough that anyone who is not a health science major can read and
understand. There are even many links that lead outside the article and goes more in detail what
the word means. For example, Ultra-processed is linked and right kinds of fats. The links are
conveniently placed at the respective part of the article it intends to talk about. They even post
pictures of delicious food that has people feeling hungry for food.
Nugent, Elinor, and Susan Larocco. "Comprehensive Review of an Accelerated Nursing
Program: A Quality Improvement Project." Dimensions of Critical Care Nursing : DCCN
(2014): 226-33. Web.

33.4

This next article talks about nursing programs. More specifically, through an accelerated
program. These accelerated program are for people with bachelors degree and wish to become a
registered nurse. The article talks about how they can improve the accelerated nursing programs
from the use of surveys, qualitative, quantitative, and the use of older data. The article voices
recommendations based on this information in order to benefit the students who proceed in these
programs.
This is a complex topic because it deals with the broader picture of programs. They pretty
much use the information taken from surveys and as the name implies, improves the curriculum
of the nursing program. It does a good job easing the reader into the article as it summarizes the
existing data. It then proceeds to focus on noteworthy surveys that require attention. The charts
and data are placed well and in the end of the article, lists a large list of references of program
leaders from around the nation.
Levitin, Daniel. How to stay calm when you know youll be stressed. Online video clip.
Youtube. Youtube, 31 October 2015. Web 19 April 2016
This TED talk is as the title says, staying calm when you know youll be stressed. Daniel
Levitin is a neuroscientist who is quite renowned in the field of science with many science
affiliated acquaintances. He brings up interesting topics. The first topic was placing things you
know for certain in specific places. The main topic was about the prescription of simvastatin. A
well-known cholesterol lowering medication which is widely distributed to people. Daniel brings
up some troubling statistics such as how out of 300 people, only 1 is effective in preventing a
cardiovascular problem. The drugs side effects has a 5% chance of affecting the people taking
the drug. This means the individual is more likely to suffer from the side effects than the disease
that it is prescribed for. The main point to take away from this is making the correct decision for
yourselves. It is best to think about this all rationally when youre not in a stressful situation.
Daniel brings it up as prospective hindsight.

Daniel Levitin is a neuroscientist and he holds conversations with experts in the subject and
voices his rationale of it. The whole statistic about how simvastatin can be more painful than
help is just one. He didnt use any visual statistics which is a shock to me as I expected it.
However, he uses the statistics which is easy to imagine. He used 300 people instead of like
15,389. His colleagues are his sources of the accuracy of the statistic of simvastatin. This is an
interesting video as everyone will at one point, have to make an important decision and it is best
to make it in a stress free environment.
