List and briefly describe each of the three Learning/Developmental Domains.

What is the
primary impact of addressing them in education? Include specific terminology related to
education in your response (5 pts.)
COGNITIVE: Mind. The cognitive domain deals with mental skills or knowledge. This
includes the recall or recognition of specific facts, procedural patterns, and concepts that serve in
the development of intellectual abilities and skills.
PSYCHOMOTOR: Body. The psychomotor domain includes physical movement, coordination, and
use of the motor-skill areas. Development of these skills requires practice and is measured in terms of
speed, precision, distance, procedures, or techniques in execution. Thus, psychomotor skills rage from
manual tasks, such as digging a ditch or washing a car, to more complex tasks, such as operating a
complex piece of machinery or dancing.

AFFECTIVE: Social /emotional (spirit). The affective domain includes the manner in which we
deal with things emotionally, such as feelings, values, appreciation, enthusiasms, motivations,
and attitudes.
By incorporating the three learning domains into education causes the student to progress from
surface-level learning to more complex, deeper-level learning. All three domains affect the nature
of the experience, the developmental levels of the participating students, and the duration and
intensity of the experience. They also make it easier to sequence learning tasks in a logical order
of difficulty. This in turn helps align assessments to the learning objective of any lesson.

List the three stages of performance (skill levels) and describe how you could apply the
recommended teaching progression for skill development with students. Explain the importance
of using developmentally appropriate physical education activities (6 pts.)
Beginning
Intermediate
Advanced
Each level will determine how one teaches their students. With beginners it is important that
activities create an environment where the object of manipulation remains stable. With the
intermediate level movements are less taxing on the childs mental ability. They are provided
with more opportunities to practice progressively challenging activities. When children become
advanced, their skills have become more automatic and little conscious thought occurs. It is
important to know that age is not a factor when it comes to the level of performance. Appropriate
movement activities match the movement abilities of the children. They also take into account
the childrens developmental variability and individual readiness for such activity. The learner,
the task, and the environment, should be kept in mind at all times because it helps when
developing appropriate physical education activities.
What are the three Fundamental Body Movements? List two examples of each one. (6 pts.)
Locomotor: Walk and Run

Axial Movements (non-locomotor): Bend and Stretch

Manipulative Skills: Throw and Catch
