Animal cruelty is when someone hurts an animal or does not care for an animal
responsibly, like not giving a dog or cat food and water. It is against the law to be
cruel to or harm animals, even your own pets. It's also called animal abuse, or
neglect.
Animal Cruelty is in many shapes and forms. Such as animal abuse, hoarding, dog
fighting, puppy mills and, factory farms. On the flip side, every state in the United
States and the District of Columbia has a law prohibiting cruelty to animals. People
have started taking more action against animal cruelty and preventing it. Also have
been taking more action against ALL types of animal cruelty and putting a stop to it.
Dog fighting is also a form of animal neglect/type of blood sport generally defined
as a game. Two dogs against one another in a ring or a pit for the entertainment of
the spectators or the gratification of the dogfighters, who are sometimes called to
as dog men. Dog fighting mainly involves bit pulls or dogs that are more broad
and muscular built. Dog fighting is also similar to gambling it's centered on bets and
money. The injuries inflicted by dogs participating in dogfights are frequently
severe, even fatal. The American pit bull terrier-type dogs used in the majority of
these fights have been specifically bred and trained for fighting and are unrelenting
in their attempts to overcome their opponents. With their extremely powerful jaws,
they are able to inflict severe bruising, deep puncture wounds, and broken bones.
Normal dog fights last up to 1 to 2 hours. Dog fighting is also a felony in all 50
states.
Puppy mills is another type of animal neglect. They breed puppies for sale, typically
on an intensive basis and in conditions regarded as inhumane, they living conditions
are filthy and most of the time cause diseases and infections within the large group
of animals. As young as eight weeks of age, are sold to pet shops or directly to the
public over the Internet, through newspaper ads and at swap meets and flea
markets. In a puppy mill, dogs are often kept in cages with wire flooring that injures
their paws and legs and it is not unusual for cages to be stacked in columns. When

female breeding dogs reach a point of physical depletion and can no longer
reproduce, they are often killed. Another common thing in puppys mills is a lot of
the dogs are sold online.
Also another example of animal neglect is factory farms pack animals into spaces so
tight that most can barely move. Many have no access to outdoors, spending their
lives on open warehouse floors, or housed in cages or pens. Without the room to
move and act in natural behaviors, confined animals experience severe physical and
mental distress. Farms that are not properly maintained can be breeding grounds for
salmonella and E. coli, which are passed to humans through meat, dairy and eggs.
To combat these unsanitary conditions, animals are fed large doses of antibiotics
but bacteria is constantly adapting and evolving.
There are many types of animal cruelty, some are common sense and some arent
not directly identified as animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is never going to be an okay
thing, it's an unfair way to treat animals. Im also glad that there are people
speaking for the helpless animals to eliminate the hateful crimes people are
committing multiple times every single day.
