University Partners

Prospect for Success (PFS) is a program whose success is inherently tied to

university partners addressing otherwise insoluble problems. While courses vary by
college and academic unit, they all support the same principle of assuring an increase in
the scope of students engagement at UNC Charlotte. PFS courses allow instructors to
provide opportunities for students to form relationships with university partners.
This chapter serves very much as a resource for faculty teaching PFS courses. To
be effective, it is divided into three sections (1) Academic Resources,(2) Health/Safety
Resources and (3) Other Resources: it contains descriptions in terms of possible
university partners, along with ideas for using the PFS courses. It is meant as a resource
for faculty looking for ways to integrate university partners into their courses and
teaching. Faculty should not feel pressured to include all of these partners, only those
they feel are most germane to ensure the success of their own PFS courses.
Table 1 at the end of the chapter connects the university partners to the
corresponding PFS Student Learning Outcomes: Success, Critical Thinking/Inquiry, and
Cultural Awareness.
