English 113B primarily focuses on using logical and critical thinking skills enhancing
composition writing by utilizing strategic techniques to excel in both expository and narrative
writing. Being said, I was taught the fundamental literacy that will prolong a college level of
academia. Subsequently, not only did I learn how touseappropriatelanguage, butIalsolearned
language from a cultural aspect. Not to mention, the course theme was an examination of
crosscultural diffusions. Initially, the course materials corresponded within the culturalissueas

Moreover, I excelled in both writing and research skills through Project text, being the
expository essay based on the concept ofnatureversusnurtureasseenasone ofthetopicsinthe

Moving on to Project Space or also known as the narrative essay, I came across my
identity and culture as I was able to explore the factorsthatmakeupmypersona.NotonlydidI
recognize the valuable traits of my character, but I also learnedmoreaboutmyselfandwasable
to grow as an individual by looking at my personality from a different point of view.
Furthermore, I learned how medicine, being my culture, is perceived andpracticedinnumerous

ways throughout different spaces and locations. Not to mention I became a skilled writer by
applying adequate scholarly sources from both from in class sources as well as outsidesources.
Being said, thorough research wasestablishedthroughoutmyessaysupportingmyclaimswithin
the culture of medicine. Within my first draft, a variety of components needed to be refined to
make my article stronger. For instance, I had a couple of runon sentences, grammatical errors,
and most importantly my claims were disorganized and unclear. However, after going to the

communicating with my audience on why my culture is essential and valuablefromavarietyof

Moving on to the second analysis, Project Text or better yet the expositoryessay, which
focused on the novel Every Day by David Levithan by looking at identity through the
construction of cultural backgrounds. Subsequently, this theme corresponded to argumentation,
research, and critical thinking skills. The prompt depicted several topics through the debate
between issues seen in the novel and how they affecttheeverydayworldaswell. Moreover,my
topic was nature versus nurture, through this topic I was able to make a profound connection
with the novel to global affairs. Nevertheless, my argument stated the individual to beoutruled
by nature when his or her nurture should prolong the person. Alternatively, thisessayimproved
my argumentation by addressing the naysayer in an appropriate understanding manner rather
than bombarding the naysayer. Moreover, I learned how to attain a conversation with the

naysayer without disputing his or ideas by letting the naysayer know I understand his or ideas,
yet identified howmythoughtsoutrulethenaysayersobjective.AsIwastaughttocommunicate
with the naysayer, I also learned not tobearunonquotewhichissomeonewhogoesoverboard
with the quotes rather than explaining the significance of the quotes. Although itmayseemlike
the quote itself has a lot to contribute to the audience, it does not, in fact, it makes the essay
sound repetitive. However, what makes a quote essential is how the writer addresses its
importance to his or her audience. One of the most fundamental components of expository
writing is being able to attain the audience by being persuasive and addressing whocares about
your topic and essentially why the question matters. Correspondingly, I learnedthesignificance
of writing in regards to any essay, the writer should always let the audience know explicitly
what his or her thesis is and how it evidently proves an overall statement. Above all, this essay

Consequently, Project Space and Project text have enhanced my performance in writing
by introducing the fundamental bases needed at a university level. Furthermore, not only did I
learn how to write adequately, but I also enriched my performance through thecoursematerials
They Say I Say by Cathy Birkenstein and Gerald Graff and Rhetoric For Radicals byJasonDel
Gandio. Within both of these novels, I was taught how to communicate effectively through the
usage of language and body language. Not to mention, I learned how acculturation and
enculturation shape and form the individual. In a like manner, rhetoric speech issubstantialand

introduced me to the original bases of reading and writing at a college level and has advanced
my composition writing through its diligent teachings allowing me to escalate in my literary
profession.
