Innovation Activity 3: A Case Study Analysis

In this comparison, I am looking at three teachers and how they differ in their teaching styles and technology
integration. I am also looking at three different schools, one elementary (Denton ISD), one middle school (Hudson
ISD), and one high school (Mesquite ISD). I will focus on the following questions:
Does teaching a different grade level make a difference in the teacher's perception of technology integration?
Do different campus levels (elementary, middle, and high) influence the technology integration in a school system?

These three school scores are compared below.

Mesquite ISD - Elementary School
Teaching and Learning - 2.5 (Advanced)
Educator Preparation and Development - 2.67 (Advanced)
Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support - 3.16 (Target)
Infrastructure for Technology - 4 (Advanced)
Hudson ISD - Middle School
Teaching and Learning - 3.3 (Advanced)
Educator Preparation and Development - 3 (Advanced)
Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support - 3.5 (Target)
Infrastructure for Technology - 3 (Advanced)
Denton ISD - High School
Teaching and Learning - 2.5 (Advanced)
Educator Preparation and Development - 2 (Developing)
Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support - 2.3 (Developing)
Infrastructure for Technology - 2.5 (Advanced)

Looking at the numbers it seems at Mesquite ISD and Hudson ISD are very similar in all sections. The only
thing that Denton ISD is different on is the Educator Preparation and Development and the Leadership, Administration,
and Instructional support. I think that all these districts are on the right track to moving towards a 21st century learning
environment for their students.
In each of these districts a teacher was interviewed to see how technology integration was going in their
classroom and on their campus. The teachers at Mesquite and Hudson seemed to be more comfortable with technology
and use it a lot in their classrooms. Whereas the teacher from Denton seemed a little hesitant to work with technology
and to use it in her classroom. As far as Instructional support all the districts seemed to give the teachers a lot of support
and a push towards using technology. The teacher from Denton said There arent many professional development
opportunities outside of the basics of Google Apps and Classroom. They have a plan to increase the number of
chromebooks to have 1 chromebook for every 2 students. Mesquite ISD offers training in technology and gives
teachers who may not be very comfortable with technology the chance to visit other classrooms to see how technology
is being used. Hudson ISD give monthly professional development where teachers get 1:1 training with a prerecorded
video where the teachers can work at their own pace while learning the hardware or software.
After reading all of the different interviews and learning about the different schools, I think that the scores that
the schools received were very well spot on with the interviews that were conducted. Before reading, I thought that
elementary teachers would have a harder time implementing technology since they are working with little kids who
may not know how to use the device or may get distracted easier. After this case study, I believe that it doesnt matter if
you teach at a elementary school, middle school, or high school, technology integration is more based on the teachers
beliefs and level of comfort, as well as the administration's support.
