Technology Benchmark

Assessment Description
The Bellarmine University Technology Benchmark has been developed to assess teacher candidates ability to meet the technology
standard in the Kentucky Teacher Standards (KTS). The Kentucky Teacher Standards are research-based and aligned with the Danielson
framework and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards. Kentucky Teacher Standard 6 requires teachers to
demonstrate the implementation of technology. KTS 6 is divided into five components:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Uses available technology to design and plan instruction.

Uses available technology to implement instruction that facilitates student learning.
Integrates student use of available technology into instruction.
Uses available technology to assess and communicate student learning.
Demonstrates ethical and legal use of technology.

The Bellarmine University Technology Benchmark requires all candidates in the Annsley Frazier Thornton School of Education to
develop a technology-infused lesson plan using the Bellarmine Lesson Plan Template. Lesson plans are required to meet all five
components of KTS 6. Candidates lesson plans will be evaluated based on how well it meets each of the five components of Kentucky
Teacher Standard 6 utilizing the rubric developed for this benchmark. Additionally, the Technology Benchmark requires candidates to
write a reflective paper on the development of their lesson plan. Candidates reflective paper will be evaluated based on how well it meets
each of the five components of Kentucky Teacher Standard 6 utilizing the rubric developed for this benchmark. The Technology
Benchmark utilizes a four point rating scale from beginning (1) to proficient (4).
The lesson plan and reflective paper must be submitted and assessed through LiveText so that candidate performance data can be reviewed
to track individual candidate progress and for program improvement. A holistic score is then given for each of the five components for
both the lesson plan and the reflective paper. In order to be successful in completing the technology benchmark, the candidate must
achieve a holistic score of Emerging on all five of the components by the end of the course. A minimum score of Developing on this
benchmark assessment is required and demonstrates the candidates competency in program and state standards.
