INSTRUCTIONS FOR EXERCISE 1 [Only for the students who attended the class on Thursday, September 25] Read the ancient sources translated in the chapter on Slavery in your sourcebook. Use them to make at least 10 different points answering this question: How did slaves contribute to Roman society? Each point you make must be linked to one or more aneient sources, thus in each case you must refer to the source you are using by number and title. Make sure you use the ancient sources rather than the short introductory sections to make your points. In each point you must first state the obvious and then briefly explain what that tells, us about Roman society. e.g. According to source 5.14, we leam that senators owned up to 400 household slaves.
