Spacing Out
Zoe Valentin & Monique Mendez
The idea of Spacing Out is to provide a place for students and staff of High Tech
High to gather and relax. A survey had been done at our school to find what stresses out
students, and after gathering data, it seemed what most students needed was a place to
de-stress and unwind. The goal would be to have each and every person who enters through
the doors into the projected space be left feeling at ease, safe, and inspired. It is envisioned to
be implemented in the new High Tech High campus. This calming experience would be held
in a hallway, and a projector would display images/videos on both sides of the hall to create a
peaceful setting. The hallway will be trapezoid shaped, as the slanted walls will provide great
projection quality. Upon entry, it will appear as though youve stepped into a new
environment. The intent is to have students and staff feel like transported away from their
worries and tension, and into a new setting. When walking through, you will pad across
bamboo flooring. Bean bags will be scattered on the right and left of the space, giving
students a comfortable place to sit and relax. Floor lights will offer a form of illumination, so
the room isnt completely dark.
