Zwick BARCOL Hardness Tester

Range of application
The Zwick Barcol tester is a digital hardness tester that
is especially suited for performing tests on level and
lightly curved specimen to DIN EN 59 and
ASTM D 2583, see below:
Glass fibre reinforced plastics
Duroplasts
Hard thermoplasts
Semifinished and finished parts
Aluminium

An optical and an acoustic signal are generated

after the measurement time has expired and the
test data is automatically shown on the display
with a resolution of 1 Barcol. The test data can
be transmitted to a PC for further processing and
archiving via an RS232 interface when using the test
software testXpert II.
The tester always shows the current test data and
can save up to 300 hardness value. The tester is
switched to the standby mode if testing has not
been carried out for a long time.

Characteristics
The Barcol hardness tester has a truncated cone
which is made of hardened steel and has an angle
of 26 degrees and a flat tip with a diameter of
0.157 mm. The measuring distance is 0.76 mm.

The low weight, the handy dimensions and the

accumulator operation enable mobile use as well as
laboratory operation (test stand as an option). This
mounting device allows the hardness tester to be
clamped rapidly and simply and is used to run series
tests.
