Title: Reflection

Lesson #:_11_ of _11_

Content Standard(s) addressed by this lesson:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.SP.B.5
Summarize numerical data sets in relation to their context.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.SP.A.2
Use data from a random sample to draw inferences about a population with an unknown characteristic of
interest. Generate multiple samples (or simulated samples) of the same size to gauge the variation in
estimates or predictions.
Objective:

Write coherently about project findings and reflections.

Learning Target:
I can: write about what I did and what I learned during this project.
This means: I must think deeply about myself and this project.
List of Assessments:
Summative: Reflection
Summative: Post-Test

Reflection
The purpose of this lesson is to look back at the project and reflect on
what went well, what could have gone differently, and what was
learned.
Approximate Time: 1 day = 70 min
Materials: Reflection worksheet, iPads, post-test

Do Now

The Do Nows for these final lessons ask students to demonstrate their
overall statistical knowledge by asking questions that require a variety
of skills and levels of thinking.

Procedures

Do Now: 15 min
Students know to start the Do Now as soon as class starts. Teacher
lets students work for about 10 minutes, then goes over the answers
with the class, allowing students to share their answers.
Presentations: 10 min
Any students who did not present yet have an opportunity to present.
Post-Test: 20 min
Direct students to the class page on Schoology, where they can find
the link to take them to the post-test. Let students know that since this
is a post-test, they should try to do the very best they can to show what
they have learned. Students get time to take the test.
Reflection: 20 min
Teacher goes over what is on the reflection sheet questions about
what students learned and the process of going through this unit.
Students are to write in complete sentences, not bullet points or lists.
This is a writing assignment, so take time to have deep thoughts and
write them down fully on the reflection sheet.
Closure: 5 min

Management

Teacher asks a few students to raise their hands and share their
thoughts about the project or something they learned.
Students may ask for permission to write in a way other than directed
on the reflection sheet. Students will be given as much time as needed
to finish both the post-test and the reflection. Students will selfdifferentiate on the reflection by writing as much or as little as they are
capable of.
This is a quiet work day students are to follow the previously given
guidelines for behavior during a presentation, and are to work quietly
by themselves on the post-test and reflection students know that

these are individual activities and they are supposed to act accordingly.
Any behavior issues will be addressed one-on-one with the students.

Reflection
I chose to do this reflection to finish the project because of a math teacher I had in high school
who sometimes gave us writing assignments. It is good to see how coherently students can write
about their learning. I also learned a lot about my students through what they wrote, which was
very touching. I realized that this would be a stretch for sixth graders, but they rose to the
challenge.
