Edgar Allan Poe
Once upon a midnight dreary, while i pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint
and curious volume of forgotten lore, while i nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a
tapping
The Raven is a poem, and it is about a man that is grieving. In the beginning he is in his
house moping when something knocks on the door. Believing that it was human, he explains that
he is sorry because he was napping, but as he opens the door he realizes that no one is there.
Confused he walks outside to find a bird, a raven. He starts absently talking to the bird and
becomes very confused when the bid answers every response with nevermore. For the rest of the
poem he talks and progressively becomes angry.Be the end of the story he is yelling and this bird
calling it the devil.
This poem is a very interesting concept because it has many dynamics that piece it all
together to be what it has become. My favorite part in this is And the Raven, never flitting, still
is sitting, still is sitting. On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door: And his eyes
have all the seeming of a demons that is dreaming, and the lamp-light oer him streaming throws
his shadow on the floor; and my soul from out the shadow that lies on the floor. Shall be liftednevermore. I like this part because it brings to attention that our demons with us will always
be there for us to see and sometimes we can never get over what we have done or seen. I would
definitely recommend The Raven because it is an interesting read that will have you ponder
about your own life as well as this poem.
But we loved with a love that was more than loveI and my ANNABEL LEEWith a love that winged seraphs of Heaven
Coveted her and ME
Annabel lee is a love poem about a man and his death wife. He talks about the love that
they shared and that it was more than any kind of love seen. He also explains that the angels took

her away and killed be because they were jealous. This is an interesting poem because it shows
the thought process behind a man that was so in love stricken by grief. Also it really ties into the
life of the author; Edgar Allan Poe. This poem is based on the events of Poes own life when his
wife Virginia Clemm. Virginia was the love of his life until she died of tuberculosis a couple
years into their marriage. This is a fascinating concept since Poe didnt personalize most of his
poems previous to her death but after that he wrote a lot about his pain and suffering. In all, I
enjoy this poem as a whole because each part tells a little about his life but it is broad enough for
most to relate the concepts he is portraying. I would recommend this poem to anyone who enjoys
a good read.
