Attention Getter: How many times have you stayed up past midnight and you dont know why
because you were actually tired? Or you have recently experienced pain of any sort, but you
havent had any injuries and cant explain what it is?
Reason to listen: Well, its just as serious as any other disease, disorder, or health problems and
many people dont know they even have it.
Credibility: I have come to have much knowledge in this area, because I too had this health
problem, and for a pretty long time I was unaware, until I was rushed into the hospital. You never
really value or understand something until you have seen it face to face.
Thesis Statement: Stress is the bodys adaption of change, which can be beneficial or detrimental.
I will be discussing the detrimental. We began to stress when we are continuously put through a
challenges without relief. The body reacts to stress in three aspects, mentally, physically, and
emotionally.

Main Point: Stress can cause numerous of effects and all the effects are categorized. The first
categorization is mental stress. Signs of mental stress are when we become worrisome, our
judgement of things are always negative, unwanted thoughts, and hypersensitivity. These also all
link to anxiety. Anxiety and depression play a major role in mental stress because they are the
main results from mental stress which is because mental stress causes us to overthink and we
become concerned to the point where its out of the our control and they can be life altering.
Stress leads to a feeling a helplessness, and the feeling that things will never get better.
Supporting Material: Mental stress can become very severe and can cause chest pains and panic
attacks. Another type of mental stress is when it becomes to disrupt your cognitive thinking. The
presence of these types of hormones may alter your nervous system and cause your brain cells to
work insufficiently. Because of the decreasing of brain cells, whomever may be experiencing the
mental stress will have trouble concentrating, find themselves confused a lot, and have trouble
learning new material.
Research/Facts: When I had my first encounter with stress, it was mentally. I slowly began to
lose focus in my classes and I couldnt and I always felt negative towards things. My mindset
begin to change and my attitude toward everything was I cant.

II.

Main Point: Physical stress are the easiest signs and most common to notice. The human body is
designed to experience stress and react to it, but once it feels pushed past its extent without any
rest it reacts with some of the physical symptoms of stress.
Supporting Material: Forty-three percent of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress.
Some of the main physical signs in stress are headaches, lack of energy, inability to sleep, chest
pain, and stomach pains. When we stress physically it takes a big toll on us and most of the time
it doesnt just effect one thing, it comes as a package deal.

Research/Facts: When I experienced severe physical stress, I was at my dance practice and
everything begin to weigh my shoulders down and I never felt so low in my life. With things
already not going my way, anything could just push me over the edge. We were doing a genre of
dance I wasnt too fond with because of my unfamiliarity with it. I couldnt ace this dance how I
wanted and tryouts for it were coming up soon and I became frustrated with it. As I attempted to
do the dance again, along with my frustration I began to feel sharp pains in my chest. Despite the
fact that I tried to dance through it wouldnt work, I could not push forward. These pains
worsened and I became short of breath and I was immediately rushed to the hospital to be told I
was stressed and I had an anxiety disorder.

II.

Main Point: Emotional stress is least common of the three and the hardest to seek. The lifetime
prevalence of an emotional disorder is more than 50% due to chronic, untreated stress reactions.
Emotional stress involves becoming easily agitated, frustrated and moody, feeling overwhelmed,
low self-esteem, and avoidance of others.
Supporting Material: Emotional stress is often caused by trauma, resulting in shock and later
denial. You are more likely to have emotional stress when a stressful event shatters your sense of
security. A disorder that may come with emotional stress is Bipolar disorder, which involves
dramatic shifts in mood, and behavior of the highs of mania.

Conclusion
Stress and its effects are very seldom known to be as severe as they are and they can ruin your health
mentally, physically and emotionally. Many people see these symptoms as normal or apart of their
everyday life, but if you have any of these symptoms, talking to your doctor immediately would be in
your best interest. Do you have any sort of stress, if so what type and how will you cope with it?
