National Scholars Honor Society in 2007. I was also awarded the professional
development award from William Carey University School of Nursing upon
graduation. Furthermore, I was commended for successfully continuing full
time and graduating on time following Hurricane Katrina while often
commuting as far as Pascagoula, MS.

I was recruited to work as adjunct faculty in the pediatrics division. I
currently instruct students in a clinical hospital unit setting how to care for
pediatric patients using a family oriented care approach.

I've worked as a staff floor nurse for over eight years on the same unit
since I graduated from nursing school. It is a GI/Orthopedic/Med-Surg unit.
However, I frequently assist the Heme/Onc unit and Heme/Onc clinic as I am
the only nurse in the hospital not employed by these departments to have
undergone the hospital's chemotherapy training in order to better care for
those patients. I was trained to be a charge nurse after five months of
employment at Children's Hospital and within my first year I was also trained
to be a preceptor, having since precepted numerous new nurses. I have also
been the United Way representative for our unit each year as well.
I was commended by Continental Airlines after caring for a 9 year old
little girl who started having new onset Grand Mal seizures 20 minutes into
my honeymoon flight to Jamaica for the remaining duration of the flight. I
was the first nurse employed by Children's Hospital to seek out and receive
certification in Pediatrics. I have received multiple commendations through
the Children's Hospital's "MAGIC" system (Making A Great Image Count,
letters written to administration from parents, patients, fellow employees,
and managers with thanks for excellent patient care and nursing

performance.) I have been a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor

Society of Nursing since graduation in 2007. I was awarded as a member of
the National Scholars Honor Society in 2007.
I have also volunteered with hospice nursing, helped rebuild a
playground in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, and most recently
volunteered at UNO as their nurse during sporting events such as "Swamp
Ball."
I also assist in caring for my seventy year old father, who suffered
brain damage after a car accident when I was sixteen years old. He also
suffers from Diabetes, Alzheimers, and has undergone multiple neurological
surgeries and rehabilitation treatments.
