Introduction
On Thursday January 21,Dole told The Center Of Disease Control that theyve
stopped all production at their Springfield facility and the products out of all
markets.The CDC took DNA fingerprinting tests on bags of salad at the Dole
facility and the lab tests showed that the Listeria was highly related to ill people
who reported eating Dole brand packaged salads within a month before getting
sick.

Listeria Background:
Listeria is a type of bacterium that infects humans and other warm blooded
animals through contaminated food.Listeria was named after the surgeon Joseph
Lister in founded 1940. This bacteria lives in soil and decaying vegetables matter
where our food is grown.It can also be found in meats, cheese,and is able to grow
and multiply when its at a cold temperature.90% of pregnant women,elderly
people,and adults with weak immune systems are most at risk.The symptoms
knowing that you may have this disease is if you have a
fever,nausea,vomitting,and diarhea.

Dole background:
In December 1901, 24 year old James D. Dole founded The
Hawaiian pineapples who was known as Hapco at that time
and then changed their company name to Dole on labels and
advertisements.Later 1930 they had more than one billion
plants grown and over a hundred billion cans of pineapple a
year.

Current event
Last Summer of July 12,2015 there were cases of
Listeria that started in six states near the
Northeast and Midwest United States
The 12 people have been sickened and 1 person
that has past away in the Listeria outbreak and the
CDC agency has recently confirmed that the
reports are due to Dole brand packaged salads
The Agency said the illnesses were located in
Michigan,New York, Indiana,Massachusetts and

Opinion
In my opinion I think that this event will be in text books
and significantly remembered.The reasons why I think
this outbreak will be in text books is because most people
wouldnt think Dole would let this outbreak infect many
people for a while.Another reason why is because in the
future younger people could learn what happened in the
past.
