The children played in a big pile of leaves that had fallen from the trees. They threw leaves in the air, rode bikes through the piles, and crunched and stomped on leaves with their hands and feet. The leaves smelled funny and made new sounds. The children used all their senses except taste to experience autumn. The author wonders how they can taste autumn through vegetable soup or leaf-shaped biscuits.

they came across a big pile of leaves that had fallen off the trees. Maryam, Khalad, Lujain, Sibgha and Kareem, Rayan, Zaina and Rahma ran over to the corner where all the leaves had gathered and began picking them up and throwing them in the air playfully. I watched as they fell on your heads tickling your faces. Rayan and Amro rode through the piles on their bikes squealing with delight while the other children crunched the leaves with their hands and stomped on the leaves with their feet. There were a lot of new sounds that you heard and when you picked up the leaves and put them to your noses you told me they smelled funny. What a great learning experience for all the children this morning, they used all all but one of their senses.
they smelt the leaves
touching and crunching the leaves
watching as they fell from the trees
listened to the different sounds
What next? I wonder how we can taste Autumn, maybe we can make some soup out of autumn vegetables, or bake biscuits that look like leaves? T Lynda April 2016
