How Technology and Web Changed Our Lives
Since the beginning of the human race, we have not stopped to improve for one
second. Every year, every decade, the human past brings something new, whether it is
invention of the wheel, discovery of fire which made lives much easier in back in those ages.
For many years, philosophers, physicists and many more tried to explore not just our planet,
but also the entire universe. When you take a look around yourself, there are not much things
left to explain. However, improvements can be made, and for sure should be.
Lots of changes have been made in the history. Development bureaus had their hands
full all the time, and humanity has passed through many stages of it. Everyone can remember
the era of industrialization when steam and coal had their role on the scene. Today, we cannot
say that there are no improvements being made. On the contrary, we have never been more
developed and never had such high rate of discoveries. It is true and cannot be denied that no
big goals can be achieved if you have only fire and wheel, but they were a fine start. Era of
computerization is present today, and we can see it everywhere around us. Take a look at the
smartphone, television, car, toothbrush (the one that needs to be charged), or anything else
that you can think of. Everything we can see today is somehow connected to the era of
computerization. Technology has changed the way we live, and that is the fact that cannot be
denied. Infact, the result was such that it changed our lives radically, and technological
advance made humanity take the most of it, nevertheless we speak of communication,
entertainment, leisure, travel or studying (Vasmatics 100). Years before, people would gather
arond the fire and talk to each other. Today, we see that it is most common for children of all

ages, elders, business people and everyone else to stare at their big screens (which also
became so big with years). Technogical advance made our lives much more easier,
informations were never so reachable, news and media were never so open, but on the other
hand, what we lost for sure is our privacy. Especially when we speak of those who are
exposed to cameras and shows. Advancing in technology does not always have to mean
improving the quality of our lives.
Communication is a very important tool to survive in todays world. With the fast
development of technology and its increasing use, people have adopted to the use of
technology in the day to day life for even the smallest of things. There are always two sides to
a coin. So there are also the positive and negative impacts of the use of technology in a
humans life in todays world. Social media is one of the most growing fields where people
connect with the use of internet. The other technological devices that have had a great impact
on us is the use of mobile phones and instant messaging. This also has a negative impact on us
as we tend to spend more time on the internet than we could use it for something else and
something productive. But it also has its positive advantages as it makes our work easier and
finishes work I lesser time.
Social media has caused a wave of controversy in the use of media world because of
its impact on our lives. The age group of people who mostly use social media is mostly from
14-25 years. I was introduced to the internet about 7-8 years ago when we started to learn
about internet in my school. It was fun to know that internet was of such great help to me and
the rest of the world. But with time I learned a lot of things about the internet and how to use
it. Then came my introduction to the social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
When I first got to know about Facebook I didnt pay attention to it because I thought it was
just another site. But when my friends started to use it, it made me feel like its a very good
way of communicating with other people. It is very simple to use and understand and thus it

was easy understanding how it worked. But the negative impact of it was that it was addictive
and when I used to log into my facebook account I used to spend hours on it looking at other
peoples updates and stuff which in reality with not of any help to me.
Today, it is almost not possible to find something that already is not on the internet.
The first thing we tend to ask if we need some information, or we want to share something is
to send the link. Internet has connected the entire planet, and that is probably the best thing
that ever happened to humanity. Informations and knowledge have never been closer to
individuals, and nowadays, it is considered to be a shame if you do not know something,
because you have the posibilty to learn it in a very short time from the comfort of your home.
Also, technology not made our lives better, but also simplified them. Imagine all those papers
you had to carry around when you visited doctor, or perhaps writing notes and letters. Today,
emails are something that is common among society, and there are already generations on this
planet that never sent a letter to someone. It is not to blame them, years that came made it
such way, even though some of us still try to maintain some sort of tradition.
There is no sector left that has not benefited from the technological advance. We can
give an example here from medicine, where you have cases of robotic surgeries nowadays.
Yes, it is true that doctors still make the operations manually, but instead of them, their moves
are coordinated with robotic ones. Operating by remote control in so common that in the past
there is not a single person that would think that such thing will happen. Ofcourse, this has
many advantages and small number of disadvantages, such as cost of procedure and risk of
instrument failing, but they are very small, almost ignorable (Kumar 2012). Also, one other
thing you can imagine is your kids going to sleep. Let us be honest, they will probably spend
some more time surfing on the Internet. They are smart: when they hear you come, turning off
the light on the smartphone actually tricks most of the parents, but the truth is different. While
sleeping, they are actually multitasking: listening to the music and surfing the Internet is so

common among youngsters that it is very hard to avoid, and even control it (Lewin 2010).
That is the way the world works nowadays, and you can do nothing but adapt to it.
Technology and web changed the way we used to live, brought us so many good things that
no one could ever imagine such things can even exist. Yet, they also brought with them some
harm. It is very hard to keep and maintain your privacy nowadays because you are vulnerable
as soon as you get connected. The way we communicate with each other will never be the
same. The invention of telephone was a great discovery at that time, and a lot of people
thought that they are on the peak of inventions. How wrong they were proved Mark
Zuckerberger by bringing to the life most popular social network, Facebook. This changed not
only the way we communicate, but also the way we spend our time and choose our friends
and company.
Technology and its advancement has both negative and positive sides. In one hand,
you have better standard of living, higher level of education, more informations and better
healthcare. Yet, it is very interesting how none of that is being used to develop a tool that will
eliminate poverty or some uncurable diseases. It is for sure that technological advance needs
to be maintained, but in the right way. If billions of dollars can be spent on making prototypes
of combat airplanes, how is it possible that there are still homeless people on the street?
Technology and web brought great things to human kind, but some thing will never change.
Instead of irrelevant projects, that kind of power and knowledge should be inserted in some
other ways, to make it more worth and valuable. We live in an era of pollution, and yet we
tend to call ourselves most advanced beings on the planet. We surely are, but will we continue
to be if polluting does not stop? No, we will not. Modern technology leaves our environment
in bad situation, and that is something we need to face, because it is a side-effect of a great
advance. Cars and old electronics that are often being dumped into landfills can cause
environment pollution because they contain high levels of mercury and similar substances that

are harmful for mankind, and not only for them, but also for our flora and fauna. Using
electricity also pollutes, and it is needless to say that houses spend so much water and hurt the
ecosystem that way (Stanic 2013).
We cannot deny the fact that the use of computer, laptop and tablets has enhanced the
way information could be presented to the students or in a meeting. It has made our work very
easier and efficient as well. Many would agree that every student needs to have a laptop or a
tablet as a part of his educational program but these uses should be limited and the students in
elementary schools shouldnt be allowed to use such tablets and depend completely on it. It
also leads to parents being pressurized for new gadgets because of the competition that is
being development due to the advancements in the newer tablets. It would in the end make the
parents to spend more and more money on these devices and the company owners would just
benefit from this and the children would be their target market. Parents should monitor how
their kids are making use of the tablets and the laptops and restrict the over use of such things
if its not related to any learning process, because kids have easy access to vulgar things over
these devices and this would make the person exposed to bad things at an earlier stage and the
children could become more aggressive and abusive instead of being a better person. Students
should be exposed to the traditional learning process and made to socially interact with the
professors and teachers and other students. It would help the children to have confidence in
actually approaching and talking about their issues with the respected teachers. This will not
only make the students socially active but will also help them not be completely dependent on
technology for any work.

To conclude, we can say that technology needs to continue the progress, but in a more
cautious way. Many of us have children that will continue to live on the same planet because
they or we do not have another home (unless technological advance interferes and creates

space ships that will be able to travel to far distanced planets similar to Earth), and that is why
everything needs to be done in order to preserve it. Speaking of the ways how web changed
our lives, it can only be added that if we continue to live this way, we will not even have to
leave our homes: you can order pizza, buy things on different websites or have a great time
communicating with your friend via camera and similar programs that allow you to do that
(Dentzel 2014). Still, many has to be done to maintain some sort of tradition, because as much
as web and social networks actually connect you, they also separate you from the real world
and real conversations, the ones that are usually done along with a good cup of coffee at your
friends house.
