Thank you for an outstanding school year at NEMS. As we wrap
up, there are many important items for your information in this
edition of Miller Matters.
Please note that all students in grades 6-8 will return their iPads
to the school before leaving for summer break on the following
days:

Your child will receive instructions here at school to back up any


information and data before returning the iPad. All iPads will be
erased and reconfigured this summer to the newest settings for
these devices. Students that are enrolled in summer band will
keep their current iPad and not go through this process. If you
have any questions about iPad return, please contact us at the
school.
We want to provide you the best information possible over the
summer months. Please be sure to check our school and school
district website for any information or announcements. Timely
information will also be communicated through our email
messenger system.

Extra yearbooks

End of year activities for eighth grade students

Extra yearbooks will be


on sale in our office
beginning Wednesday,
May 18. The cost is $40, and only cash
can be accepted. Yearbooks will be
sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eighth grade students with outstanding performance in academics,


athletics, or student activities will be invited by the NEMS faculty
to be recognized during an awards program on Tuesday, May 31 at
7:00 pm in our gymnasium. Families of the students being
recognized will receive invitations later this month.

Medication pick-up
Please plan to pick up
any medication your
child has in the nurses
clinic on the last day of
school. Medication must be picked up
by a parent or guardian. We cannot
send medication home with students
or keep medication over the summer.
Any medication not picked up by 2:35
pm on Wednesday, June 1 will be
destroyed.

Final Report Cards


Final report cards will be emailed to
parents the week of June 6. Paper
copies of report cards will be mailed to
families who do not have an email
address on file at the school. You may
also access your childs grades by
logging into the PowerSchool parent
portal with the account you created.

Music Recitals
The Exploring Music students
will be performing short
recitals on Monday, May 23, in
the LGI room. Come hear what these
students have accomplished this
quarter! Eighth graders will be
performing on guitar at 7:35 and 8:20
am. Seventh graders will be playing
Zimbabwean xylophone music at 9:45
and 10:35 am. Sixth graders will be
playing World Music Drumming pieces
at 12:30 and 1:15 pm. The programs
will be short and there will be plenty of
seats. This will be during the students
regular music classes so please verify
youraaaaaa
childs class time with them so
you know which time slot to attend.
We hope you can make it!

Our PTO will be providing a picnic lunch with fun


activities for the entire eighth grade class on
Wednesday, June 1, the last day of school!
Volunteers are needed for set-up, serving, games, and clean-up
between 10:30 am & 2:00 pm. Level 2 clearance is necessary to
volunteer.

Spring cleaning
The PowerSchool Parent Portal is still open for spring cleaning
(student records refresh). Please take a few minutes to view the
information we have on file for your child as we prepare for the
2016-17 school year. This is necessary so we have up-to-date
contact information for you and your student.
You will need to log into the Parent Portal with a parent level
account at https://powerschool.nobl.k12.in.us/public/home.html
If you need to create an account or cannot remember your login
information, please contact our office for assistance.
If your child will not be attending Noblesville Schools next school
year, please contact our registrar, Carla Miller, to complete and
sign a Withdrawal/Transfer form. This form must be completed in
order for student records to be forwarded to the new school your
child will be attending.

Spring choir concert


The NEMS Spring Choir Concert will be held
on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:00 pm in the
Noblesville High School Auditorium. The
concert will last approximately 1 hour. Students need to arrive by
6:30 pm. There is no charge to attend the concert. DVDs of the
concert will be available to purchase for $20.
There will be a rehearsal on Tuesday, May 24 from 2:00-5:00 pm at
NHS. Buses will take all choir students from NEMS to NHS, but
parents must pick up students at NHS at 5:00 pm.

Choir rehearsal at NHS (2-5 pm)

Donation opportunity
Noblesville Schools is partnering with Noblesville's Youth
Assistance Program in order to meet the food and toiletry needs of
our students. We are looking for donations to assist Noblesville
families in need. The food donations needed are items students
can access with minimal assistance such as: easy mac, peanut
butter, packets of cheese and crackers, granola bars, canned soup
and spaghetti o's, raisins, goldfish crackers, pretzels, popcorn, etc...
The toiletry items needed include: shampoo, conditioner,
deodorant, soap, body wash, etc.
Please send all donations to our office by May 20. The donations
will be collected and sent to Noblesville's ESC office and distributed
to Noblesville families. We truly appreciate your support!!

NEMS Counseling Curriculum


Each student at NEMS engages in a yearly counseling curriculum that includes
activities and guidance lessons on Academic Skills, Personal/Social Development and
Career Exploration.

Social Lessons

In May the counselors will be presenting social skills lessons to their students.

6th Grade - Students will participate with digital learning activities that that teach
coping skills and decision making for emotional self-regulation. This engaging and fun
lesson will help students reflect on decisions and determine alternative choices that
will have a positive impact on their learning.
7th Grade- Students will participate in stress reduction activities including ways to
identify sources of stress, learn how to deal with common teenage stressors and
practice stress reduction techniques

*8th Grade-High School Information: Students can find many important forms online
by going to the high school website and selecting the guidance tab. Here they will
find a link to Important Forms. Students will find forms at this link for Summer PE,
Alternate Physical Education Credit Contract (Athletic Waiver), High School Schedule
Change, and High School Credit for Middle School Courses. Students have until May

20 to request high school schedule changes and until the first day of school to
submit the form for High School Credit for Middle School Courses.

AT WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL
*June 13-16th Fundamentals Camp @ Noblesville West Middle School
*June 13-16th is our Shooting Camp @ Noblesville West Middle School
COME JOIN THE FUN!
Each girl will have the opportunity to have a great time and develop their basketball
fundamentals by working with the varsity basketball coaching staff and high school
players. Our Shooting Camp will focus on the fundamentals of shooting. This should be
an excellent camp for your daughter to improve one of the most important skills in
basketball. You can choose one or both camps. Each camp is $50 or if you are interested
in participating in both, the cost is $80. If you have more than one child attending camp,
each additional child attending each camp will be charged 1/2 price to attend camp.
FUNDAMENTALS CAMP:
*Incoming Kindergarten-5th Grade will be from 8:30-9:45 am on the downstairs court.
*Incoming 6th-8th Grade will be from 8:30-9:45 am on upstairs court.
*Cost is $50.
FUNDAMENTALS CAMP WILL COVER SEVERAL SKILLS DURING THE WEEK:

*Shooting
*Passing
*Ball handling
*Defensive positioning
*Screening
*Rebounding
SHOOTING CAMP:
