“Reflecting on Our Diversity & Recent Events” - A Medford Community Dialogue Organized by the Medford Human Rights Commission May 11, 2016 February 2016 © Word Hijab Day cancellation - Arabic Club students at Medford High School had their cultural and educational event canceled due to community push-back conveyed to the MHS Headmaster and the Superintendent, Hurtful comments posted by residents on email and social media, © Meeting - Diversity Director, Chair of the HRC, met with school officials to address the implications of these responses ‘* Meeting - Community members, Diversity Director, Members of the HRC, and members of the Interfaith Clergy Association met with the Arabic Club to support the students and teachers. March 2016 * A Medford Police Officer posted an image on Facebook depicting the nuclear bombing of Islam. © Meeting Small group and Cty officials convened a meeting with members ofthe Police Department for a discussion. Mid-April 2016 @® © Meeting - Members of the Arabic Club and several police officers came together for a productive conversation about differences, perceptions, and behaviors. There was consensus that more conversations were needed.
