There are lots of words that describe the
way we move from place to place. Weve
grouped them into four groups.

Vehicles
Most people use some f orm of transporta*on

everyday. Adults and kids alike use dierent


forms of transporta*on to get to places they
need to be. People who live in big ci*es may
take a train or a bus. People who live near stores
may ride their bikes to get things they need.

Where Vehicles Travel



There are lots of words that describe where

vehicles can go. Some words are specic to the


kind of vehicle. For example, only a train can go
on railroads. Some words describe places that
more than one kind of vehicles can go on. For
example, bicycles and cars can both go on the
street.

Lets take a look at some of the core vocabulary
words that describe where vehicles travel.

path

A path is the way along which a vehicle


or vessel travels.

A route can be a popular path people like to


travel to get somewhere. It can also be a new
path that people create by themselves.

A public bus travels on a specic route to take people to the places they need to go.

There are lots of words to describe parts of a
vehicle. Some of these parts can be found on other
kinds of vehicles, while some parts can only be
found on a specic kind of vehicle. But they all
have one thing in commonthey all help people
get from place to place.

Words that describe the way vehicles move can
be very specic. For example, to sail a boat is
not the same as to row a boat. But you can drive
