Bertie 1918: Armistice
We are learning to watch
a video and identify key
points, discuss and note
taking.

Brainstorm: IWB
Display some photos
from 1918 depicting the
Armistice Day to promote
discussion. (Appendix 1)
What do you think is
happening?
What major historical
event could we be looking
at?

Back to Back Viewing

Introduce the video clip explain
that it set in Australia during the
same time. Explain what a key
point and dot points represent.
Model to the students on how to
take notes by first hearing what
happens without viewing it, and
then watching it without sound.
Compare the responses with
students comparing their
keywords and ideas by asking:
What happened?
Who are the main characters?
What key words did you
record?

Whole Class:
See-think-share
In pairs using tablets students
now watch the whole clip.
Each student records their own
keywords and notes as well as
wonderings.
(Ritchhart et al. 2011, pp.55-63)
Small teaching group: EASL
Watch and Represent
Re-watch the clip and allow the
students to represent the
information in another form
such as a flow chart, picture,
word map. Ask to share
keywords and what they might
mean.
(Wing Jan 2009, pp.131)

Reflection Circle
Students share their key words,
and see-think-wonder
questions. The information is
inserted onto a class cluster
diagram by the teacher to
organise the information.
(Appendix 2)
