The Dangers of ISIS
Many people are affected by terrorism every time terrorists attack. Who is ISIS?
ISIS stands for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria and is the Islamist militant group that has
seized a chunk of land stretching from Northern Syria to Central Iraq. ISIS is estimated
to have just under 10,000 members just between Syria and Iraq.
There was a recent ISIS attack in Paris on November 13, and 14 of 2015. The
attack injured, and killed many people in Paris, but there were also many Americans
that were hurt in the attack. This terrorist attack frightened people in Paris because it
was so sudden and destroyed many parts of Paris. On November 13 and 14 of 2015,
terror attacks claimed hundreds of lives in Paris and Saint-Denis, France, with the
Islamic State group claiming responsibility for these deaths. The destruction caused by
the ongoing civil war in Syria and the Islamic State group have forced millions of people
to flee their homes in Iraq and Syria, resulting in a refugee crisis in Europe (ProQuest
Staff).
ISISs attacks injure and kill hundreds of people. On March 22, there was a
coordinate hail bombing in Belgium. This attack killed 32 people and injured over three
hundred people. ISIS has also planted bombs around cities. Bombs underline city's
status as a center of Islamic extremism (Miller). This attack killed 31 people and left
250 severely injured.

The people in Paris have been limited to their ability to move freely around the
country because of the recent ISIS attack in Paris. They also started to lose personal
privacy throughout the country. The Paris officials became stricter on their rules and
regulations within the country. They are doing this to protect the citizens from further
attacks. The government increased police officials, military protection, and air assault
teams to do so.
After these attacks occurred, traveling became very hard and almost impossible
for people who lived in Paris. They wanted everyone to stay in the area, so they could
find out who the criminals were that had these deadly weapons. People were not
allowed to travel into Paris either. Family and friends could not see each other or visit
which made everyone mournful. The vote at the European Parliament in Strasbourg,
France was the culmination of five years of arguments about whether the latest
measures were to threaten personal privacy (Kanter). Passengers felt uncomfortable
and unsafe knowing they might have to give out personal information.
James Kanter voted to collect data on an airplane to provide more information for
the Paris government. Passengers did not like this because they felt as if this was an
invasion of their privacy. After a wave of terrorist attacks in recent months European
Union Lawmakers took a decisive step, on Thursday, in favor of stricter security with the
approval of a continent wide system to collect and share information on airline
passengers (Kanter).
Authorities in Paris have found tons of weapons, heavy weapons that the
attackers used in Paris. Authorities are seeing a new network of people around the
attackers in Brussels. The new measures are the latest sign that efforts in Europe to

improve safety are trumping concerns over protection and protecting peoples privacy
and civil liberties(Kanter). People soon began to realize that what the authorities were
doing helping them stay safe.
The United States naturally had skepticism on whether it would be smart or not to
get involved. Generally, ISIS is too dangerous. The United States has to make sure they
uphold the law and the civil rights, so they are not violated. "The question about
President Obama's resumption of war in Iraq is not whether it can be justified but where
it will lead (Coll). The United States is fully committed to fulfilling a support role during
the struggle against ISIS.
The terrorist group ISIS is the most recent threat that has emerged within the
context of the War on Terror taking place within the nation of Syria and Iraq. Overtime
ISIS has provoked many attacks on many different places. They have become one of
the most powerful forces. This world is terrorized by all of their actions and will remain
affecting everyone.
