Medicare Enrollment Periods Training

Implementation of training to begin at San Antonio, Texas Location

Utilized to obtain new skills or refine current job knowledge

Foster learning opportunities at all company work sites

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to provide information regarding the various


enrollment periods that are available to Medicare eligible individuals. Agents
who are designated to sell Medicare insurance products should be able to
properly identify the correct enrollment period in which a Medicare enrollee
may qualify for.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The audience is made up of both licensed and non-licensed health insurance


agents that represent private insurance companies. The majority of the
audience members include those with prior or limited experience in the
health insurance industry, and most have limited computer knowledge in a
similar training environment

DELIVERY MODALITY AND LENGTH OF


COURSE

This course is intended to be completed within two training days for a total of
sixteen training hours.

The utilization of in-house training room classroom space and computer


equipment will be accessed.

Current company training department staff will conduct the course.

LEARNING GOALS

Agents should be able to accurately identify which enrollment period a


Medicare eligible individual is qualified for.

Agents should be able to utilize the correct resources and information to


review which enrollment period is available for the Medicare insurance plan
enrollment.

OBJECTIVES

A Medicare Agent will be able to correctly assign the enrollment period for a
client after receiving the information regarding the various enrollment
periods, without error.

A Medicare Agent will be able to identify which enrollment period is primary


when there are multiple enrollment periods available for client, without
error.

A Medicare Agent will be able to utilize the correct written and online
websites to accurately select the enrollment period for the client, without
error.

A Medicare Agent will be able to ask questions that will assist in determining
the appropriate enrollment periods, without error.

PERFORMANCE BASED OBJECTIVES

These are performance based objectives, as they allow the trainer an


opportunity to display the needs of this training in a manner that can be both
quantified and assessed.

The learner can later be tested and assessed with regard to the criteria in
both the classroom and back on the job.

These objectives will focus on what the learner will be able to do as a result
of this training.

INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES

The types of instructional strategies that will be involved in this training


include a variety of lectures, classroom discussions, active learner
involvement, and independent student research projects.

Learners will be given an opportunity to gain new knowledge or enhance their


prior experience in this topic by receiving lecture, and then be given
opportunities to contribute to the classroom learning by active participation
throughout the training period.

Individual research will also allow a learner to demonstrate their knowledge


of the topic, and to receive feedback on their individual progress.

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

Laptop computer learner stations for each participant in the classroom.

Access to the Internet, company Intranet, and the use of Power Point
presentation slides that will assist in conveying the information to each
learner.

DEVELOPMENT OF COURSE

There will be one Instructor and one Training Team Manager involved in the
development of the Medicare Enrollment Periods Training.

This team may involve members of the same site location, or a partnership
between members of two company locations (One instructor from the San
Antonio, Texas location and one training manager from any of the company
locations.)

DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE

A maximum period of two weeks to develop the training course, and have an
instructor ready to teach the required topic.

Ideally, the developer of the course will normally be the one who will be
conducting the classroom learning.

The two-week time frame allows plenty of time for the course to be
developed, and then have someone else prepared to lead the course if
needed.

RESOURCES AND MATERIALS

Fully accessible Internet and Intranet capable laptop computers for each
learner.

Company credentials to access company training sites and required


assignments.

An overhead projection screen will be utilized for certain portions of the


classroom learning, and writing utensils and notebook paper for participants
to take notes throughout the course.

BUILDING INTEREST AND COMMITMENT

Internal email and posting on the employee job/training bulletin board will
be utilized to promote the availability of this training course being offered.

Team supervisors will have group meetings with team members to promote
this training course being offered.

SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS

Participants that have not had experience in this area of Medicare


Enrollments Periods, and will be transitioning this year to this sales area, will
be given priority.

If there are any spaces available, they will be given to those employees that
communicate to management a need for remedial training in this area.

ASSESSMENTS

Assessments that will be utilized in this training course includes student


observation, instructor feedback and an interactive approach to the student
learning process.

Other assessments will include both written quizzes and a final exam that
both require a passing rate of at least 80%.

Utilization of online and paper testing will be conducted throughout the


course.

FEEDBACK

Formal evaluation tools such a paper method quizzes and use of online
technology to assess the learners knowledge will also be conducted.

There will also be variables of evaluation such as: communication skills,


enthusiasm, flexibility, student attitude and student participation levels that
will be evaluated.

There will be an end of course student evaluation form that will go with the
learners employee file, and this will indicate the overall course participation
levels and testing scores for the entire training period

EVALUATION DATA

The evaluation data that is collected Will be utilized to be sent to the


company headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, in order for this training to be
expanded at the other work sites in the various cities that are conducting
Medicare Insurance Sales.

In conjunction with the various training department managers at each site,


this training could be enhanced so that this course can ensure that agents are
properly trained.
