Evacuation Systems

We offer a choice of product packages and
systems that are standard or tailor made,
and certified to the latest requirements of all
international standards. Our product scope
ranges from top of the line latest innovations to
standard and basic options.

The evacuation dual chute, or VEDC,

is VIKINGs highest capacity chute
system with an evacuation capacity
of 736 persons in 30 minutes. It is
combined with 150 person liferafts
for safe, rapid evacuation from large
passenger carrying vessels. Capacity
can be increased to suit the exact ship
requirement with additional drop
down liferafts.
This latest MiniSlide system is designed

for middle and low embarkation vessels
with independent slide and liferaft
for increased capacity and installation
flexibility.
The telescopic nature of the reinforced

Kevlar evacuation chute ensures a safe
descent path and compensates for ship
and sea movements so that evacuation
is not obstructed. This system has the
additional advantage of protecting
evacuees from environmental hazards,
such as severe weather conditions,
during evacuation and is fitted with a
protective cover.
This unique design combines the

highest evacuation capacity with
discreet, compact and self-contained
design for maximum safety and
relatively little deck disruption.
The system requires only one crew

member to operate and oversee
evacuation.The new brake cushion
system (patent pending) gives evacuees
a clear stopping point at the bottom
of the slide and a soft stop. The new
MiniSlide system has an evacuation
capacity of 501 persons in 30 minutes. It
is available with a 150 person canopied
self-righting or open reversible liferaft.
The system has 2 or 3 pre-incorporated

101 person liferafts for ease of
operation. It is designed for installation
heights of 5-20 m and has an
evacuation capacity of 563 people in
30 minutes.

This system can be used by vessels

with embarkation heights from
5-20m. Although it was originally
designed for small and medium sized
vessels, its flexible design means that
it can also be used for larger vessels.
The slide is a stable, efficient dry shod

evacuation system that can evacuate
over 657 people in 30 minutes. It can be
tailor made to suit all types of vessels
and is available with self-righting 25, 51
or 101 person liferaft combinations.
The MiniChute has a pre-incorporated

101 person liferaft and can evacuate
582 people in 30 minutes.
The 30 angle between slide and ship

absorbs the movement of the sea and
means that the system can be installed
at extreme forward and aft positions.
This system is designed for small

vessels operating in any sea condition.
It is available with either a 101 person
open reversible liferaft for vessels
operating in sheltered waters or a
SOLAS compliant 101 person selfrighting canopied liferaft for vessels
operating at sea.
The slide is fitted with ropes that allow

for access up the slide, making it also a
means of rescue.
Davit launched liferafts

For all vessels types, shapes
and sizes
Davit launched liferafts are designed to
be inflated and boarded at deck level
and then lowered into the water. They
are available as self-righting canopied
liferafts or standard canopied liferafts.
They are designed to carry 12, 25, 35 or
39 people and are an effective means
of dry shod evacuation and can be
either an alternative to chute or slide
systems or a supplement.
Throw-overboard liferafts
Throw-overboard liferafts
are dropped in their
containers and inflated in
the water.
Self-righting canopied rafts are available
in four sizes; for 25, 51, 101 and 150
people. Standard canopied rafts are
available in nine sizes; 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20,
25, 35 and 51 people.
Open reversible liferafts, for use in
sheltered waters are available for: 6, 12,
20, 25, 51, 101 and 150 people. Liferafts
with capacities of 25 and above can be
used as supplementary liferafts to all
VIKING mass evacuation systems.
It is compact, packed in a container the

size of a standard liferaft container,
simple to operate and fully operational
within 2 minutes.
The VEMS can evacuate 501 persons
in 30 minutes.
Direct boarding
For vessels with low
embarkation heights
Direct boarding liferafts are typically
used on board small passenger ferries.
They are available either as open
reversible large capacity liferafts or as
self-righting canopied liferafts.
Both types are available in 25, 51, 101,
and 150 person sizes.
They are mounted on racks on board
ship and normally released from their
cradles with a remote release system.
They are then bowsed to the ship for
direct evacuation from the deck to the
liferaft.

of all types of fixed and floating
offshore installations, FPSOs,
drillships and special purpose
vessels.
Every second is critical when abandoning a rig at sea.
Getting the maximum number of crew safely
evacuated in the minimum of time is the priority. It is
essential that high capacity life-saving equipment is
easy to handle by the minimum of crew to ensure
safe and rapid evacuation of all on board. VIKINGs
advanced evacuation systems provide fast and easy
evacuation, exceptional stability and are trusted by
crew worldwide.
Offshore Evacuation Systems
SES-2A
Unique high transfer system for
maximum evacuation heights.
Integrated liferafts, fire retardant
chute and blast proof container.
The SES-2A is specially designed for
offshore installations and comes
complete with integrated liferafts
stored inside the container, a fire
retardant chute and an optional blast
proof container. It offers controlled
launching and recovery in
temperatures from -20C to +65C
and can evacuate up to 140 persons
within 10 minutes.
Also available with a moveable frame
that can be cantilevered into position
for deployment and retracted into the
storage container after use.

SES-2C Arctic
Compact and lightweight system

with fire retardant chute.
The ultimate evacuation system for

arctic weather conditions. Special
counterweight system gives
sufficient stability to board supply
vessels, ice breakers and other ships.
The SES-2B is specially designed for

offshore installations with evacuation
heights for the standard version up
to 50 metres.
The system comes complete with a
fire retardant chute and integrated
liferafts safely stored outside the
container.
It offers controlled launching and
recovery in temperatures from -20C
to +65C and can rapidly evacuate up
to 140 persons within 10 minutes.
VIKING has developed a new

evacuation system specifically
designed for frozen waters and harsh
arctic environments.
Severe winters can limit rescue
operations. Fog makes evacuation
by helicopter unsafe and winter ice
makes the use of free fall lifeboats
impossible. VIKING has therefore
modified its already proven offshore
chute system to cope with the
special conditions encountered when
evacuating by chute directly onto a
ship.

SES-2D is the ultimate high

transfer evacuation system for
fixed installations in harsh
weather conditions.
Lightweight system specially

designed for installations with
installation heights of 5-25
metres.
For installations where all

equipment must be stored within
the deck.
The SES-2D system can be deployed

to sea using a boarding platform and
liferafts as means of evacuation. The
system is designed for storage and
deployment in temperatures from
-46 to 65C.
SES-Basic is a lightweight means of

escape designed for installation
heights up to 25 metres above sea
level.
Evacuation capacity is 140 persons

within 10 minutes from evacuation
heights up to 40 metres.
It can be operated in temperatures

ranging from 0C to 65C and is
available with an integrated boarding
platform.
Selstair offers exceptional access control

to restricted and otherwise hard to reach
areas and can be used in a variety of
situations:
For rig inspection, deck to deck

transfer, maintenance purposes or
access security.
n Lowered from the platform directly to

the sea
n Used between decks on a platform for
effectively transferring personnel
internally
n Easily moved from one location to
another due to its relative small size
and low weight, making it ideal for
inspection and for conducting
maintenance and repair
VENOC is the most flexible evacuation

chute system available for vessels today.
It can be used at evacuation heights from
5 to 45 metres for evacuation of 140
persons within 10 minutes.
VENOC
Flexible high capacity evacuation
chute system for FPSOs, drillships,
special purpose offshore vessels,
wind turbine ships, and installations.
The hydraulic slide moves the

evacuation system into cantilevered
position for deployment, and after use
retracts the system into the storage
container.
It offers controlled launching and
recovery in temperatures from -20C
to +65C and can rapidly evacuate up
to 140 persons within 10 minutes.
The SES-2D system complies with a

subset of the IMO ISA MSC.48(66) in
accordance with DNV.
Selstair access system
The system comes complete with a

fireretardant chute and integrated
liferafts safely stored outside the
container.

High capacity safety equipment must be

easy to operate with a minimum of crew.
Remote launching and rapid deployment
are considerable advantages of the
Selstair system.
Its deployed by pure gravity. Electrical
power is only needed for retrieval. Nonslip aluminium steps and landings,
handrails and safety net around the
staircase guarantee safe passage for all.
The system is installed on open deck or

between decks with only four small
footprints (welded to intallation deck).
A hydraulic arrangement tilts the VENOC
evacuation system into position for
deployment.
The main self-righting liferaft is
connected to the buoyancy device and
will inflate automatically at sea level making it simple to board. No bowsing
lines or welded connection points on the
ships side are necessary.

VIKINGs throw-overboard and davit-launchable
liferafts are available in a standard version and a
top of the line automatically self-righting version.
The proven self-righting liferafts ensure that no matter how the liferaft
lands in the water it will always right itself ready for boarding. Liferafts
can be equipped with a hydrostatic release unit so that it inflates
automatically if they have not been released manually.
Liferafts are subjected to rough sea trials, wind velocity tests at forces
of 30 metres per second and deployed at extremely low temperatures.

design for a tailor-made solution.
Complete integration of components
The new series has a general design philosophy that
allows for complete integration of optional
components. And with a selection of buoyancy,
different closure types (buckles), cover materials,
colours and a host of accessories, you can configure a
lifejacket according to specific needs.
SOLAS regulations
According to regulations, all lifejackets must come
with a light, whistle, reflective tape, lifting strap,
buddy line and two automatic inflation systems.
For added safety VIKING has mounted a crotch strap
on all lifejackets as well. And no matter how you
design your VIKING inflatable lifejacket it will fulfil
existing and future SOLAS requirements as described
in MSC-200(81).

How to design
your own lifejacket
VIKING makes it easy to configure a lifejacket tailor-made
to work conditions in a few easy steps.
First select the appropriate buoyancy. Then pick a
cover material; buckle style; inflation system and light.
Finally you have the option to add a sprayhood, a PLB
(personal locator beacon) or both.

All VIKING inflatable SOLAS lifejackets come with a
whistle, reflective tape, lifting strap and crotch strap.
The crotch strap ensures that the lifejacket stays in
position, and helps maintain a correct flotation angle.
Custom options explained

Buoyancy
Symmetrical: The higher the Newton
number (N) the higher the buoyancy. For
general use, select 180N. For situations when
extra weight is carried, select 275N.
Asymmetrical: As asymmetrical chambers
offer faster and better turning capabilities,
select a 275N asymmetrical when extra weight
is carried, e.g. heavy tool belts.
Cover material
Wipe clean: Repellent yet soft to the touch
and extremely hard wearing. After use simply
wipe clean with a damp or wet cloth. Choose
from four matte colours ranging from the
brightest bright to black. Typical use: Ideal for
heavy industrial environments, e.g. offshore
and fishing
Aluminium for welding: Durable
aluminium coated Preox/Para-Aramid cover
offers both radiant heat and spark resistance.
Typical use: Ideal for all severe heat
environments, e.g. for welders and offshore
personnel working in production areas.

A blanking cap protects the hydrant from dirt and
salt water when not in use. A coupling spanner can
be stored inside the cabinet to make connection and
disconnection possible. A cabinet will also be needed to

Mandatory, hazard, safety, fire, first aid and IMO signs and escape
route marking are compulsory for cargo ships. They must be clear
and visible and approved by the International Maritime Organisation.
Signs are colour coded according to their purpose and must either be lit by low level emergency lighting or
photo luminescent for at least 60 minutes after the removal of external light sources.

intervals according to international regulations.
n Gas inflation stress test (GI) is conducted every
5 years using the liferafts own CO2 cylinder to
inflate the liferaft
n Necessary additional pressure test (NAP) at double
the working pressure rate is conducted at 10 years
end then annually thereafter
n Floor seam test (FS) is used to check the seams
below the buoyancy chambers when stressed
and is conducted at 11 years and then annually
thereafter

VIKING offers consolidated servicing and
inspection for all your safety equipment on board
including service for lifeboats, davits and release
hook systems. Our global network VIKING owned
servicing stations can perform inspections
according to IMO MSC.1/Circ. 1206/Rev.1.
Today release hooks are complicated systems
with at approx. 75 models on the market.
Therefore knowledgeable service is necessary for
correct maintenance. It is not only a question of
performance in an emergency situation, but also
durability and lifetime costs.

Immersion suit service

Fixed fee exchange or standard service for immersion suits
VIKING has been a manufacturer of quality
protective clothing for over 25 years. Our network
has the knowledge and spare parts needed to be
able to service immersion suits effectively. We offer
two servicing options depending on your needs.
immersion suits, for all suppliers, servicing is time

consuming, due to drying time after testing. The
exchange service is especially attractive for those
who need a fast turnaround. If you cannot give
sufficient notice prior to service, standard servicing
may be a better solution.
Fixed fee exchange

As a new service, VIKING offers immersion
suit exchange at the pier for a fixed service fee per
suit. This option is currently available for the popular
VIKING models PS2004 and PS5006. The exchange
concept is currently offered at several servicing
stations across the globe.
