Summary
TheEffectonagitationontherateofdissolutionaresummarizedandpresentedintheabove
graphandtable.Thehypothesisforthislabwasagitationisincreasethentherateofhowfast
thatitdissolveswillincrease.Themorethesolutionwasmixed,showedagreatermeanlength
(810sec)thenthesolutionthatwasmixedless.(111.3sec).Variationwithinthegroupswere
notsimilar.Withthemoreagitationsolutionhavingtherangeof60andlessagitation50.The
datadidnotsupportthehypothesisthatthemoretheagitationisincreasethentherateofhow
fastthatitdissolveswillincrease.
Conclusion
Thepurposeoftheexperimentwastoinvestigatetheeffectonagitationontherateofdissolution
ofthesucrose.Themajorfindingswerethatthemorethesolutionwasagitatedtheslowerit
dissolved.Thehypothesisthat,iftheagitationisincreasethentherateofhowfastthatit
dissolveswillincreaswasnotsupportedWeexpectedthetimeittookforthesucrosetodissolve
woulddecreasebecausethemorethewaterwasagitatethatfasterthesucrosewoulddissolve.
Butbasedonourdataitshowsthemoreitisagitatedthelongerittooktodissolve.Thereason
forwhythishappenedwasforwhenthesolutionwasagitatedmore,thanthesucrosebeganto
collideandcreateapile.Makingitharderforthesucrosetodissolveinlesstime.Thereasonfor
waterbeingapolarmoleculeisonesidehasapositivechargedandtheothersidenegative.This
moleculeismadeupoftwohydrogenatomsandoneoxygenatom.Weknewthatwaterwasa
polarmoleculesothenwefoundthatifthenegativeandpositiveareasonthepolarsucrose
moleculeswhichwouldmakethesucrosedissolveinwater.Toimprovethisexperiment,instead
ofusingascoppolatomeasuretheamountofsugarweputintothewater,weshoulduseareal
measurementtooltomakethingsmoreaccurate.Whatwedidnottakeintocontentishowwe
wouldstirthesucrose.Whenwestirredthewaterallofthesucrosebegantomoveintothe
center.Whichhappenedfromusagitatingthewaterinacircularmotion,likeatornado,where
theeyeofthetornadoisiswhereisisthecalmest.Samewentforthesucrose.Anotherwayto
makethisexperimentmoreaccurateistochangethemotioninwhich,insteadofdoingone
circularmotion.Themotionwouldbemorerandomandunplanned.Alsotoimprovethis
experimentwecouldalsohaveusedtheexactsamewatertemperatureforeachtrial.For
additionalinvestigationusinglesssugarorsugarthatismorefinerwillprovetohelpthe
experiment.Iffurtherresearchisdoneperhapsscientistscanclarifyifsugarisattractedtoitself.
