Purpose of Liquid Calcium Chloride on SRSHA Roads

1. The laying of liquid calcium chloride is strictly for road

maintenance and not for dust control.
2. The main road from Misty Lane to the end at Riverbend
Road and Pine Knoll Road receive the most traffic resulting
in top dressing dissipation.
3. If this road section was not treated, the result would also
be loss of road surface, washboarding and potholes which
can be tough on vehicles.
4. The loss of top dressing can equal the cost of treatment.
5. In the past all intersections have had treatment extended
about 200 yards in each direction to accommodate a
deceleration and acceleration area off the main road for
maintenance only.
6. Everyone in the SRSHA benefits from this as the main road
is used by all to get to their homes.
7. Cost is a limiting factor in how much road can be treated
and is not a maintenance issue on the less traveled
sections.
