As the years have progressed, Christianity has become more stigmatized than ever before

in academic circles; especially in the United States. When the canon of the Bible was first
introduced it was considered revolutionary. At that time, not many people knew of Christs
resurrection, the nomadic tribes of Israels struggles, or of the twelve disciples and their various
hardships. However, circumstances soon changed, and similarly to ideas like it, when
popularized, the Bible became the direct target of many men and womens counter-culture
sentiments.
Some of these anti-establishment men and women happened to be extremely influential,
and as the cyclical nature of human societies dictates, counter-culture became the new popular
culture, and the Bible began to recede into the background scenes of civilization; still held
esteemed as it should be in the minds of fewer and fewer righteous minded Christians.
One of the leaders of the Neo-Atheist movement, Richard Dawkins, is quoted as saying
the following about God:
The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant
character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust,
unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a
misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal,
pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent
bully.
One cant help but notice how he says The God of the Old Testament
as though the Old Testament and New Testament arent one in the same.
This insulting insinuation is quite apparent to most, but surely opinions along

these lines arent a common criticism of the bible! Fortunately, the case is
that most Atheists havent discovered profoundly adverse ideas in the bible,
but instead they look for the lowest hanging fruit to nitpick at. This usually
means the very first misconception they can find, which is frequently found
in the seemingly legalistic and dogmatically governed Old Testament.
Is God verily a merciful master, or malevolent monster playing with us
as though one might toy with ants in an ant-farm? My opinion would disagree
with the latter. I will go about explaining why I have come to this conclusion
and the ideas that have led me to this reasoning. A defense in Gods name is
required, and by addressing the criticisms of popular Atheists, I will be
providing an answer to the many mindless followers of theirs that swallow
every word of those who lead them.
As can be expected, the Lord has claimed his own positive cohesion
many times through the word of prophets. For I, the LORD, do not change;
therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed (Malachi 3:6, New
American Standard Bible). In this passage God is saying that if it werent for
His own stability, He would have absolutely and indiscriminately destroyed
the Israelites for their abundant amount of spiritual transgressions. However,
there are times when God did destroy people, even His own people, out of
righteous anger.
For instance, in Genesis He sets loose a flood upon the Earth that kills
the entirety of the human race except for one family of a man named Noah.

The humanity of the people living on the earth that time is questionable, as
the bible says Nephilim were on the earth in those days-and also afterwardwhen the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children
with them (Genesis 6:4, New International Version). However, the Bible does
not mention how many they were in number compared to the humans
untainted by the blood of demons.
Due to the constant arousal of Gods anger in the Old Testament,
Atheists seem to view him as insecure. God created man in His own image,
in the image of God. He created him; male and female he created them
(Genesis 1:27, New American Standard Bible). Being created in His image,
would it not be correct to assume just as we have emotional components to
ourselves, He would have the same? Along with this, in the Old Testament,
God entered into covenant relationships with the Children of Israel. These
covenants were analogous to a metaphysical marriage, in which both parties
were expected to be faithful to one another in their requests and allegiance.
These were commitments of high gravity, and when Israel would become
wicked in their ways, effectively cheating on the God who would bestow
blessings upon them, He would rightly become angry that Israel violated His
laws. If God didnt care about Israel He wouldnt have reacted with the
emotion of someone who has been morally fouled, and He wouldnt have
reconciled with them as many times as He did. The only reason God gets
angry is because he cares.

God consists of three spirits in one: the Holy Spirit, Yahweh, and Jesus
Christ. The Holy Spirit is the portion of Him that inhabits us, helps us pray,
and counsels us in the form of our conscience (Romans 8:16, New
International Version). Yahweh is the part of God that is also considered the
Father and passes judgement. Jesus Christ is the Son and by being sacrificed
allows us to be reconciled to the Father and filled with the Holy Spirit
(Hebrews 9:12, New International Version). Before Jesus Christ became the
ultimate sacrifice, God demanded sacrifices of animals to atone for sins
committed, for the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with
blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness (Hebrews
9:22, New International Version).
People took advantage of this old system and felt an empowerment to
sin; being that they felt they could earn their own forgiveness by emptying
sacrifices of blood. If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; and if he
is thirsty, give him water to drink; for you will heap burning coals on his
head, and the Lord will reward you (Proverbs 25:21-22, New American
Standard Bible). By sacrificing His own son, fulfilling the Law, and rendering it
void, He forgave every sin the entirety of humanity would ever commit when
we didnt deserve it. If humanity were analogous to the enemy in Proverbs
25, it can seem sometimes that burning coals are thrown upon our heads
due to the grace that the Almighty shows us by forgiving us all despite our
despondent worthlessness. We no longer have the power to earn our
forgiveness, for it has already been done; once and for all.
