In view of increased threat perception in India with rise of ISIS and other terrorist

groups openly challenging its sovereignty, it was envisaged that State Police must build its
capacity to counter and neutralize any unforeseen acts of terror to some extent on its own as
the State Police is first respondent in any barbaric or planned acts of terror.
Police leadership hence planned the ongoing engagement with the National Security
Guards, which is a pioneer in the field of counter terrorist warfare, and is widely
acknowledged for its successful operations including 26/11 Mumbai attack.
03 ACs, 04 ASIs, 39 Constables were initially nominated for a two week specialized
urban warfare course. Considering increased morale of forces, and positive feedback from
trainees; the leadership in order to Consolidate on the gains made in two weeks committed
the same group of trainees to 04 (Four) weeks addition training at NSG Hub and Brigade
HQ.
The training included inputs on room intervention, staircase clearance, corridor
clearance in addition to enhancement of physical capabilities including rappelling, dynamic
slithering. During the final stage of training the trainees were evaluated through various
methods including calibrated physical test; written examination and simulated night exercise.
It has been observed that the trainees have shaped up well and have imbibed the basic
principles of urban warfare. Most of the trainees were able to achieve satisfactory level of
competence with a selected few attaining excellence in various aspects of physical and
conditioning training. However its still a very long way to go
We look ahead towards this fruitful engaged with NSG. We hope that a day would
come when we would make NSG and State Police proud by operating independently.
I would like to thank NSG for accepting the proposal and extending beyond the
horizon help to our newly inducted SSF Unit.
