Maya (Archit)

Food ,crops and the

method
Agriculture Methods:
Shifting Agriculture (slash and burn) The Mayans would

clear the crops in the area they are growing and burn that
area, leaving only the rich ashes. The soil would be
depleted after 3-4 years so they would have to move.
Raised Bed Farming - The Mayans grew there food in low

swampy areas, they got these fertile farm areas by digging

up mud and then putting it on mats (made of woven reeds)
and then putting those above water level.
Terrace Farming - The Mayans make terraces blocking

floods near the field; silt comes out of the end of the
terrace. The silt is very fertile being good for the crops.

Crops:
They grew maize (a lot), pumpkins, sweet

potatoes, cucumber watermelon, chili

pepper, tomatoes, chute, avocados,
breadfruit, papaya, cotton, tobacco,
vanilla, cacao, and a wide range of wild
fruits.

Meat they ate dogs but later got

introduced to cattle, pigs and sheep when

Egyptian

Food , crops and the

method
Egyptian cuisine is characterized by dishes such
as Ful Medames, mashed fava beans; Koshari, a
mixture of lentils, rice, pasta, and other
ingredients; 'Molokheyya, chopped and cooked
bush okra with garlic and coriander sauce; and
Fetir Meshaltet.
For the Egyptians living near the banks of the Nile
River, the land was very fertile. The wealthy could
eat beef, lamb, pork, goat, geese and ducks, fish,
vegetables (onion, garlic, beans, leeks, lettuce,
cucumbers), fruits (melons, grapes), breads, and
honey-sweetened cakes, washed down with wine.

Crops And The Farming Season

Egyptians grew some foods such as fig
trees and wheat and barley. There were
two seasons that affected farming:
growing season and harvest season. In
the harvest season you may not have
been able to harvest the wheat you
wanted because your landlord may have
made you cut his first.
Flooding Season
June is the flooding season, during floods
Egyptians would mend tolls or make new
ones. People would go fishing for food or
extra money. Egyptians would go around
in boats because every thing else would
be under water.

Growing Season
In the growing season all the crops were
planted.
Harvest Season
Harvest season is the last season. In this
season Egyptians were repairing their
canals for the next flood.
