Muscle Power Lab ~ Data Analysis Objective: The student will investigate and compare the amount of power produced by several different muscle ‘groups in their bodies, Directions: We are now ready to analyze your results from the lab in the fitness room. For each muscle group/exercise we are looking to calculate the total work and power used to complete the entire exercise. Things to keep in mi ‘* Time (t) should be for the entire set or exercise and should be measured in seconds. it should only include time spent on the upward motion. For some of the exercises, you should estimate this time as one-half of the total time. For other exercises, using the total time makes sense. THINK IT THROUGH! © The displacement (d) should be measured in meters and should include the upward motion over the entire set. For most exercises, you need to multiply your vertical distance by the number of repetitions you did, For the Stair Climber, you need to find a way to calculate your total upward displacement. ‘© The lifting force (F) is equal to the weight of what is being lifted, assuming you kept a fairly constant speed. This weight should be calculated in Newtons by multiplying a mass (in kilograms) by 9.80 m/s, See a special note about how to find the mass being lifted in bodyweight exercises. In the essay, be sure to address the following questions. 1. Which muscles/muscle groups were the most powerful and which were the least powerful? 2. Why do you think certain muscles more powerful than others? (This is open-ended. You may answer from the perspective of anatomy/physiology, fitness, physics...there are many ways of looking at the question.) 3. How do you plan to use what you have learned to influence your fitness/performance goals? For example, will you change the way you play or train for a sport? When you have completed all part ofthis analysis, you should turn in a packet of 4 pages stapled together! 2 Copies of the Essay + This Page (Analysis) + Data Collection Sheet _ {in this order) Name:_Aliisain £¢eling Teacher:_Me.
