This issue is a very special issue indeed! We not

only bring you very insightful, informative, and
entertaining interviews with Britt Bratt, Ms. Lisa,
and Baby Breeze but we also include a tribute to the
legendary musician Prince, our All White Everything special, a breathtaking Beauty of The Month,
and so much more! And, Im honored to have the
opportunity to not only be the Editor-At-Large for
this months issue but also to introduce my new Hip
Hop Social column which will feature the untold
story of The BCF Movement. I thank Ms. Felicia
Rivers for the opportunity and Christinna

When it comes to saving money there are some

basic concepts and advice that can be most effective. I prefer to bottle them up into one
phrase: saving money the old fashioned way.
When I was a boy, my dad drilled certain principles into my head when it came to money. The
biggest of them all was, saving. And, now, as a
man, I've come to realize that those old fashioned concepts are the same advice that you'd
receive from a financial expert but in layman
terms. Here are 4 tips:
1. Keep a Piggy Bank
My dad would save a small fortune just in loose change. I never understood the
concept until it came time to place all of those loose coins into money wrappers
and take them to the bank. Then, it not only made sense but it made dollars. Because, saving 50 cents a day will equal approximately $200 dollars a year. So, use
your cash to buy things and save the change. Or, if you don't carry cash, use an app
like Acorn, which invests your spare change for you.
2. Make Yourself Useful
When something went wrong people would call my dad. Whether they needed
something fixed or just needed advice. He was an asset because of what he knew
and his skills. He knew what people needed and he'd fill that void. The more people called on him, the more money he made, and the more money he made, the
more he saved. So, make yourself useful.
3. Cutback on Your Spending
How many times have I heard, "you don't need those $100 dollar pair of shoes".
Buy the shoes that cost less but look just as nice. There's nothing wrong with bargain hunting and using coupons to receive discounts. It's okay to shop at thrift
shops and warehouse stores like Sam's Club when buying things in bulk. Prioritize
your spending, what you don't need don't buy.
4. Save for a Rainy Day
Plan for retirement. My dad had a financial advisor he'd go to for help with his 401
(k). He knew exactly how much he needed to save in order to retire comfortably.
Ensure that you have a decent nest egg saved for retirement.
These are just some of the lessons in saving money that I received from my dad.

positive.

D: It all came about me getting some life

came back it said that I was positive for
HIV. So, with me not just taking the
word of them, I had the test done again
and it still came out to be the same. That
was in 2005, when I first found out. It
was a devastating thing because I was
just shocked, like this cant be me, this is
wrong, yall got my tests mixed up with
somebody else. This is not me. I went
through everything that I was supposed
to do, like going to get treatment., it was
still a disbelief to me. Part of me was
like OK, this is what you got, this is what
you gotta do, but a whole lot of me was
like Oh, no! Not me.

As I stepped into the gym at Democracy

Preparatory Middle School in Harlem,
NYC, I could see the students, parents,
and some of the teachers hurrying to put
the last minute touches on what was going to be an incredible event. The models,
all school children, were in the hallways
and side rooms getting dressed and having their makeup done. The dancers were
practicing their routines and perfecting
their steps. I arrived a little early so I was
able to watch them prepare themselves
for what was coming. All the work and

The news is still hard to comprehend but people are starting to come to terms
with the loss of one of the greatest musicians ever. With cheeks wet from tears, I
sit at home with my Purple Rain album playing. Just last week, my 8 years old son
heard the music playing and asked "Who is that daddy?" I replied to him, "a genius son, a genius." Many may only know Prince when in reference to the infamous
Dave Chappelle skit. For him, as a guitar player, there aren't too many black artists out there that he could use as inspiration. Now, Im not old but I grew up with
old parents so Prince was someone who came on often in our crib. Such a shame
that artist like him and many other are fading away because of inner issues and
health problems in their own world. No matter what his issue was he never let it
come between him and his music. As an artist myself, I always go back to the past
to figure out where the great ones went wrong then try to avoid it, Prince is no
exception. He is a man whos music will be around for decades on end. If I can, I
will tell any upcoming artist planning to make music a full time job, take care of
your body and mind, inside and out. This game will destroy you from the inside
out if your let it so keep your life in tact.
